seriously when buying a v8 muscle car, gas prices should not even be a though in your head, like comon ur gona be buying a 400+hp car and ur worried about gas lol.
Well I guess that depends on the individual, doesn't it? I don't want a Japanese 4 banger of any kind. For me I have to have a jack of all trades kind of performance car that meets my needs and even more so is what I like. As a single guy who's relatively quite young and not looking at having kids for another ten years plus, I should be able to do crappy mileage in a V8 car no problems. Real question is; "Do I want to?" The answer to that is an unequivocal "NO". I have more important things to spend my money on and other places I'd like to spend my time other than the gas pump. In addition I do a TON of driving, so it just doesn't make much sense for me. I suppose if I were some sort of six-figure baller status personality, hell, I wouldn't be here typing this (you get the picture), or if I spent all my time I work and on my front porch.

Gotta love that Pontiac Vibe

My current car gets 30mpg, so I think the Camaro will even it out.

Hmm, buy a car with less power and make driving more boring, or move closer to work, reducing time spent in a boring commute, increasing family time or time for fun driving, and keeping costs down. Wow, this is a hard decision....

I've been waiting and wanting a car with a lot of power, I am saving up all my pennies so that I can buy the v8. I care about fuel economy now only so that I can penny pinch and afford it later.

If a V8 makes better than 25 mpg, I'll be happy. Its quite good for a car making that much power. But is a bonus to me. So long as it gets an average of 20 or so I'm good. I know what I'm in for so I won't complain. if gas gets too bad, I'll carpool.

I could never do that, I've gotta be the guy behind the wheel at all times. And are you talking 25 highway, I'm assuming you are? 20 combines is do-able but it's likely to dip below that.

At the rate it's going, it's going to get expensive. The mpg for the new 5th Gen will be better than that of the 4th Gen. That's all I care about.

And, I too, don't live that far from work. So, I get to DRIVE as much as I want any other time w/out having to be forced to do it daily....like Stovt said. Live closer to work. Don't be forced to drive 40 miles one way and then have to worry about filling up twice a week. Jeeez...I couldn't even imagine.

if you're worried about gas mileage, buy a new Camaro to have as a playtoy and a used Cobalt or Cavalier as a beater... its not the best answer in the world, but its the answer that we chose

and since the LS1 4th gens came out, the V8 Camaro got as good, if not better, gas mileage than the V6 Camaro... so I'm looking for a new 5th gen to get in the area of 30-32mpg on the highway with AFM... that's pretty darn close to the 35mpg CAFE standard that is still 12 years away

I'm with ya on this. Any money saved anywhere is good by me. Its not just the gas prices that go into the decision too. A v8 is going to be a bigger car payment, that translates into a bigger insurance payment as well. Here the insurance alone is ridiculous. I was going to end up paying 300+ dollars a month for my 2005 Ford Escape just to insure the damn thing. Thats the reason I had to get rid of it. I am looking at with a car payment, insurance, gas and maintanence paying 800-1000 dollars a month. Yea I could move closer to my work and cut down on costs (my daily commute is probably 30 miles a day, plus I am a runner, so I easily put on 200 miles a week) but then my insurance skyrockets because 50% of it is based on the zipcode I am in. A second car is completely out of the question as well with the insurance. To have a muscle car with a v8 in it would be awesome, just to sit there and admire the fact that you have the car, but to me at least having a v6 with 300+ hp would be great. I'm sure a few mods aftermarket and you could get even the v6 pushing 400hp in the future if thats what was wanted. I know everyone talks about pulling up next to a mustang and revving the engine and blowing them out of the water... but how often does that happen to people? To me its not worth the thousands of dollars needed to jump to a v8. More power to you if you all can pull off having a v8, trust me I envy you, but I would simply be happy sitting in the cockpit of a Camaro with its evil grin hiding a nice v6.

If it's projected to get that kind of MPG on the highway alone then there I'd really have no qualms pulling the trigger on the V8 option, but since that's just speculative I can't say for sure. I just know what I want and won't compromise my position to be in what I feel would be an uncomfortable situation.

not i. when i buy a v8 i expect v8 gas mileage. i am buying it for performance not gass mileage.

mpg is not an issue for me..Please GM give me a 2009 ZL1.....ie LS7 ....i think that one will get me 500+hp and 26 mpg on the highway. If its not an option, my next step will be to find an aftermarket company that can do it for me.
