Heard it was better for the V6 than V8, but if you would divide that amount by miles and how much you stop and go, shut down and start, and realize that if instead it vaporized and flash burned off as the engineers designed, it really isn't that much or consequential.
The debate is about how it fouls up the valves or God knows what else, but where the oil is by that point, whether going to your catch-can or flashing off.....the oil is past the point of fouling. |

My first oil change at 5K miles had this much in the can. I think that's an 8 oz. cup.

Heres a cool video of how much oil can accumulate in a short drive. I believe this is a 30 minute run.

Went from Montréal to Detroit Woodward Dream Cruise last august, a 1,200 miles run and here's what my Elite can caught.

I took what not said to mean it isn't necessary. if what he's saying is correct, even though what some of these pics are showing looks like a lot, the amount that is getting through with each cycle of the engine is miniscule. he's also saying that not only is the amount tiny, but it simply flash burns, as the engineers designed it to. he's also saying that it happens once it's got past the valves, so it's irrelevant to keeping the valves clean anyways.
all internal combustion motors burn some oil. I've never had engine problems with any car I've owned because I didn't have a catch can. IMO, if it were necessary then it would come standard. not saying it's pointless to have one, but I highly doubt it will make any difference to your motor |

Yeah, my catch can works. It seems like it's more effective on V6 cars too.

Isn't the catch can on the 1LE placed somewhere completely different than the ones that are to be installed that are sold after-market here by many vendors? Does the new C7 Stingray have a catch-can? Wonder if the Z/28 will come so equipped? Just broke a timing belt on a 4cyl. Subaru motor, and all the valves were clean as a whistle. Of course 14 of the 16 were bent beyond repair, but still clean ha. Engine has 189k miles on it and never a catch-can. I was going to change the belt in about 11k more miles or every 100k but the belt wouldn't wait.......................... |

Okay, so here's a stupid question...
I take my car to my dealer for oil changes. The price is very fair and they always do a really good job. So, would they just empty it for me at every oil change? And would they install it for me, too? I know it's an easy install, but I saw a thread last month about a guy who accidentally F'd up a crucial part during the install. So I'm not going to even attempt that. |

Catch can does work.

As for the install itself, honesty if you are not able to do it on your own you probably cannot change a tire. My point is it's simple and the chances of breaking something is extremely hard. Sent from my 2SS/RS Last edited by nyrfan; 11-29-2013 at 05:04 AM. |
