Just added a cam. Now its louder, still not too loud, still no drone.

Maybe im just deaf to awesome noises so I always need more :P
Your Car Sounds Wicked on the Dyno.

this is 100% correct. i recently removed my Corsa and put the stock exhaust back on, but the car still has long tubes and no cats and actually sounds pretty good just like that. i wish i would have known haha would have saved me some money by not buying a cat-back haha.

I agree headers would have to be first out, but cat-back system should fly over just a moment later...it's not only a matter of ''sound'', it's also, and I'd say mainly, a matter of weight.

And Don't Forget 30 RWHP and 30 RWTQ you will never get with a cat back.

This is exactly what I was planning on doing. I drive my car daily and don't need to wake the neighbors up everytime I get in my car to go to work. Great post! Now I just need a great deal on some Kooks with catted connection pipes...

I have been following all of the exhaust posts for years.

I recently added Kooks long tubes and hi-flow cats on my totally stock LS3 cat back....(and a Jannetty tune of course)

I could not be happier. So, glad I did not buy this or that or the other in the past

I agree that ideally this should be done...what OP recommended. But I think a lot of people do it the other way around for warranty issues (as mentioned earlier) and for cost. Headers cost $600 for cheap ones, over $900 for top grade ones, and some are even around $1500. Cat-backs are around the same prices. Axle-backs are around $400-$500. Some people want their car to sound better but can't shell out the cost of headers + tuner with custom tune or dyno tune on a budget...for some you have to add in the cost of a shop to install it. So they start with the axle-back or muffler deletes. A muffler shop may give them a deal on a custom muffler delete set-up for $300 or something. And they may get rid of the resonators or add in some mid-pipes or whatever for a bit more. Most people who are tight with money will use that option first. Or it may be someone who at the moment does not want headers...but then changes his/her mind later. That may be the issue in most of these cases. Plus headers have the stigma of being a difficult install. The 5th Gen Camaro is the only car I know of that is super easy to install headers on. So most people will shy away from headers as a first mod for that reason also.

I don't remember a Vehicle Easier to install Headers on, Definitely Best Bang for the Buck.

Seems like most headers on the C5 are higher pitched and pop a lot. This has kept me from pulling the trigger. I have listened to so many videos. The dynatech LT and muffler on this thread seemed to sound pretty darn good and the lowest pitch. Without adding a different cam are there any other claims?

If headers were any easier to put on than on the Gen 5, all you would have to do is lay the headers by it and stand back....

Too many times guys start at the Rear with mufflers or no mufflers or what have you and still aren't satisfied.

A true Muscle car has Long Tube headers with High flow cats, This Wakes up Any Exhaust and gives it that unique V8 Muscle Car Sound regardless of the exhaust.

The Problem comes in when a guy starts with the loudest cat back then adds the Headers and HF cats, then it is Obnoxious too Loud, then we are changing or adding back mufflers to get it back to reasonable levels and or Kill the Rasp or Drone.

So a Word of Advice Start at the Front With a Quality set of LT headers and High flow cats and see how you like it with the stock exhaust then move on from there.

Not only will you gain Sound but you will gain a Real True 28-30 RWHP.

No Cat backs offer Performance alone.

I hope you find this information Helpful in your quest for a Cool sounding Muscle Car.

Ted.
wish I have read this before I installed my borla atak cat-back
