I'm surprised the SS was that fast with 3.27 gears. I would expect that maybe if the motor was fully broken in. by contrast the first Camaro SS they tested took 4.8 to 60mph
the front end of the Charger is ugly imo |

I don't think you can really compare these cars, the SS is clearly more of a luxury car and the Charger SRT8 is more of a muscle car.

In some respects. SS is clearly marketed as a performance car though.

It may be more luxurious than the Charger but that doesn't make it a luxury car by any means. And all they really said was it had nicer seats for all day cruising. EVERY CAR should have this simple feature of "nice seats' that you can sit in all day. Look at how quiet they are? Both pretty much the same for noise levels. Look at the ranking of Features and Amenities.........The Charger gets a 10 and the SS only a 5. Based on that which car is the "Luxury Car"?????

While I agree it is not a luxury car, it is more upscale than the Dodge. For $10k more, the Dodge better have more features. Fit and finish, styling, driver and rear seat comfort all better in the Chevy.

I would still take the Dodge over the SS. To me, in a performance car looks are important, and the SS bland styling just doesn't do it for me. The Chevy screams better deal(not in a bad way, just fact) and the interior is gorgeous but the exterior to me is just so boring.

IMO the SS has an understated classy look to it, designed for the 45 and over group. The Dodge to me just reminds me of a large mouth bass, Billy Bass if you will ...

Yeah the Holden Commodore is more up market than the typical Chevy in terms of interior/exterior sophistication and expected handling/performance. It could have been a Buick Gran National, except the LS3 would be out of place. Regardless, a very cool car to have.

Yeah. The SRT8 (fat pig that it is) has a power-to-weight ratio of 9.3 lbs per hp (4371/470). The SS's power-to weight is 9.47 lbs per hp (3931/415), if Chevy had put in the Camaro's LS3 (426/420), that ratio drops to 9.23. I wonder who'd be faster then?

I really think they have under rated it. On the dyno they are seeing 360rwhp/368rwtq. With the L99 rated at 400hp, they average 325rwhp. That's a difference of 35rwhp with engines rated 15hp different with the same trans and rear end.

I am happy that the 'SS fared well in this test; I actually feared that it would get clobbered. Chevy has a fist hold on the ls technology and suspension geometry; After all, they have had five years (since the G8) and/or at least 20 years since the '94 Impala to improve on the performance.
I still feel that the 'SS is a work in progress. Its a mature creature, but IMO the appearance needs more work to address the busy trim details and the dated shell; And although (really my opinion) to me GM's engineering surpasses that of Chrysler's, the Mopar sedans offer more appearance features, greater power, and more amenities. I fear that, unless GM can turn up the heat with the 'SS by making it more appealing, this effort might be judged unfairly as time progresses.
