Last year I bought a GMC Terrain for my wife, the dealer pushed me to buy 'emergency minutes' for my wife in her new car. I said NO, she said YES. I had to cancel the card to get the charges to stop after I repeatedly said to cancel my service.
NEVER AGAIN!! Sorry way to run a business, you can't get repeat business that way. I never even contacted ONSTAR on my 1LE to activate my service, I gave them no chance to gather any info on me again.
ANGRYBIRD, you don't have any problem as long as you don't mind them taking your money.

Listen, I have never had a problem canceling service. I have done it on at least 5 cars. I have never been charged again after canceling.
Cars I have canceled service on 2003 Monte Carlo, 2007 Saturn Sky, 2007 Chevy HHR, 2008 Saturn Sky, 2010 Chevy Camaro.
I am not saying others have not had problems but I am just saying I haven't.

My free OnStar ended Nov 17. I called to cancel on the 18th. They had already billed me. The credit came through on the 20th. I recently received an email warning me what I lost with my cancelation. No problems.

Called from my car and asked them to remove my CC info. Checked online and my CC info was no longer there. I will assume that took care of it until I find out otherwise...

I cancelled twice now. Each time, they billed an extra month of billing before it stopped. I'll buy a 3rd party system before going back for more of their customer mistreatment.

When my trial ended i went to the OnStar web site and registered and paid for a month of service. Once i paid for my service i deleted my CC number and didn't pay or sign up for any other service. I got a few emails and letters telling me my subscription was about to end and that i would lose my emergency minutes and that i couldn't call them to unlock my car or get emergency services to me if i was in an accident and unable to call anyone. It has been cancelled for about 6 months now and i don't miss it.

I would of kept them but they are overpriced for the service they provide.

Yeah, never put anything on reorder, but I've had nothing but good experiences with Onstar. I've locked my keys in my car three times, no problem, unlock it. I also had a trip down to LA(lower Alabama) and my phone died(with my charger broken) and they were able to download directions to my destination for me.

I've been pleased, sorry you're having a problem.

I'm with angrybird, I've never had trouble with onstar. I put my account on hold every winter when my car is parked, and they NEVER over bill me. My wife's terrain had the free months, and when it ran out, they never charged me, it just turned off.

I personally equate onstar with insurance. If someone steals me car, I want to be able to find it immediately. If I get in an accident, I want help. Is the service expensive? Yes. Did I negotiate a better price. Yes. I now pay $17/month, and I've heard others getting it for as low as $15/month.

I understand not everyone can afford the extra costs like onstar or xm radio, but to me it's worth it. $0.02

My credit card doesn't allow me to charge in other countries, and since they're in Canada it won't work. So I was forced to use a check.

Onstar and onstar Canada are two separate companies. Onstar is definitely in the USA. https://www.onstar.com/web/portal/onstarsupport?g=1 shows Warren, MI and Detroit, MI.

So my salesman tells me that I have 6 mos of onstar and 3 mos of sattelite radio. Ok no biggie. Then he tells me that to activate it I need a valid plastic card. Ok I thought I'll do the 6 mos and cancel before the end date.

Not like I used the blasted thing. So 2 weeks before the end of onstar, I call and and I get the runaround.

Now I don't want their BS or their product either. So I explain slowly and tell them I wouldn't have their crap EVEN if they GAVE it to me for free(which is what they did).

I also explained that since I was canceling before the deadline, I better not see one charge to my credit card or I would turn it over to my lawyer. Now they got real pushy and explained the benefits of their product and tell me that I "need" it. I tell them 'you need me more than I need you', and hung up on them. I never saw one charge to my card from onstar. It's still there but not activated. I think the emergency is on though, more testing.
