Document ID 2210980
Well, my service writer could not find what he was thinking was documented, but he spoke with the shop foreman and they only were able to find document id 2210980 (posted by dms)
2010 Chevrolet Camaro | Camaro Service Manual | Suspension | Tires and Wheels | Specifications Document ID: 2210980 Fastener Tightening Specifications Application Metric English Wheel Nut Torque 140 Nm 100 lb ft I've dropped my wheel nut torque to 100 lb ft and I'll recheck them every couple hundred miles to make sure they're staying at 100 lb ft. I hate it when the document you're supposed to follow says one thing and the service manual says another....

I have a 2008 Tahoe and had a 2001 Youkon...they ALSO call for 140 FT LBS (as in their manuals)........ I have a small trailer with 15" Alum. rims it calls for 120 FT LBS torque. So,140 for the Camaro sounds right to me. Last edited by 97one; 07-30-2009 at 09:38 AM. Reason: spelling |

So did anyone ever figure it out? What's the correct torque value? 140 or 100?

Every vehicle I've every worked on is 100 ft lb for cars and 140 ft lbs for trucks and suv's. The reason behind this that I've always been told and taught is that towing puts higher stress on the lugs and wheels requiring the higher torque value to make sure the wheels don't come off.

![]() Dia.of the stud or lug has a lot but not everything to do with its Torque. Here is a few examples of torque from their MANUALS: 2005 Maunum= 100 lbs. 2005 Toyota Corolla= 80 lbs 2007 Lexus 350= 80 ibs. 2001 & 2008 Tahoe= 140lbs. 2010 camaro= 140lbs.

I figured I'd just go with what the manual says. I have much more confidence in torquing the lugs to 140 ft lbs after talking to Discount Tire too. With all the tires they see in a day, they're bound to know what's right! They also said that value came straight from GM too so I don't think they'd be torquing lugs to a bogus value and putting themselves at liability.

The lug nuts on my Saturn are torqued to 90 ft lbs, only 10 more ft lb for the Camaro?

I can confirm 140lbs as the proper torque for wheels on the 2010 Camaro.

I just checked mine, all four wheels (20 lugs) were 100 lb/ft from the factory. I set the wrench to 105 lb/ft and all lugs turned a little prior to the click.
![]() I think 140 is overkill. I re-torqued all to the 105 lb/ft and will periodically re-check them. |

Nino,
My nuts were torqued to just over 100lbs from the factory as well, I checked the torque when I removed the stock nuts to replace them with Gorilla nuts. I replaced mine and torqued to 100 ft/lbs, but I also routinely check lug nut torque monthly so I have no worries about the 140 confusion, my nuts wont get loose ![]() The factory must have a reason for torquing to just 100 ft/lbs, no one has statisfactorily addressed the fact that all our cars leave the factory at 100 ft/lbs...there has to be a reason for this. If 140ft/lb was correct by now surely they would be coming from the factory at that torque. I do agree with everyone...we have large wheel studs,(14mm) but again the factory didnt torque to 140 ft...why??
