The reason to let you know a car will be out and it will be a long time, is it stops buyers from buying some other car and wait for they car the announced.

But there aren't any direct competitors for the Z/28. Realistically, the biggest 'threat' to Z/28 sales is the ZL1. The most obvious one, the Boss 302 is gone. There's no Corvette Z06 or Viper ACR either, and they're a slight stretch as a Z/28 competitor. There are some 'Track Stars' from Europe, but they're all probably at least twice the price of a Z/28 and those buyers are probably well beyond what a 'typical' Z/28 buyer might be. And besides, if you can drop a quarter million on a track-ready exotic ... I have a feeling you could probably swing by a Chevy dealership & get a 70k or so pony car and not lose much sleep over it.

I have a feeling the longer they wait, the more expensive it is. Why? Because if they announce a price that is inline with expectations, then people have no problem waiting. However, if you announce a price that is hard to justify in the minds of many, potential buyers will immediately start looking for alternative between the time the price is announce and the car is available. On the other hand, if you close that window, announce a higher price but follow it up quickly with availability you will get impulse (non race enthusiast) buyers to quickly gobble them up. Just a wild theory but makes sense in my mind :-).
