How do you figure a big block would free up lots of space in the engine compartment?

It doesn't seem to me to be that hard to have one optional engine. It could have been the LS3 with HOT Cam, a supercharged version, or a some other option. Would not have been that much more expensive, and i would have payed for it. The key: Making the SS faster and better than a GT500 at a significantly lower price. A HOT Cam and gear would have done it. GM needs to get thier heads out of thier A_ _ and think outside the box. Nuff said!

The AE427 is still a carbureted engine. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but there's no way you could release a 2010 anything, not even a tractor, without fuel injection. I'd love it to be an option, though, if it would even mount up to the current transmissions, let alone the motor mounts...

That line right there has been discussed ad nauseum.
More options = more price.

And I'm willing to bet that multiple engine options would significantly drive up production costs.

And THERE is the biggest reason why not....... It would put the MSRP of the car MUCH higher....

.......then there's CAFE............

And then you'd have to certify it for:
>Federal Emissions
and
>Northeast Emissions
and
>California Emissions

...........which would raise the price even higher.

We love performance just as much (....make that MORE...) as you do......

..but there are ALWAYS good reasons for why we do not do some things...

How much extra money does California Emissions add to every car's MSRP? GM has to engineer each car to meet California regs, or do cars only earmarked for California delivery meet these? Maybe California should just ban anything with a combustion engine that isn't a city bus if they are so worried about global warming.

Man, I live all the way up in Canada, and these granola eating California hippies even get on MY nerves.

Edit: Woah. End rant

You're comparing apples to oranges (kind of)
Heres how the competition lines up:
Camaro (1LT/2LT)= Mustang
Camaro (1SS/2SS)=Mustang GT
Camaro (Non-existent Z-28)=Mustang Shelby GT500

I have faith that GM will get back on track after its IPO and have a little more room to breathe in the sports car niche.

The reason BobLutz left was because he thought the auto task force was going to make GM a bunch of greenie-weenie hybrid cars. The reason he came back was because the auto task force is a group of executives who understand that GM needs to go with what they know best, one of those things being sports cars (ie the chevy camaro).

I think that 2 years down the road you will hear a lot more rumors of a Z-28, just not at the moment while GM is regaining its footholds.

Cars going to California should already meet Emissions regulations from the factory.

I could be wrong but I believe there are considerably fewer GT500s sold than SS Camaros. All ford figured out was how to sell less units of a more expensive car. Not GM's desire. People just want too much for too little. I'd rather this car be a beast at 33k I can afford than a snake killing monster at 43k I can't.

I'm pretty sure that he is only irritated by the granola eating hippies from California. If you're from California but are not a hippie, and/or you don't like granola, then everything's cool. And possibly, you are irritated by the same people that he is.
