It seemed from the stories we heard that the cars were breaking pretty soon after being driven off the lot am I right? Maybe they figured the ones that will blow up have already.. hehehe

My son has VIN 4486. I hope he hears from GM that all is well with his car.

Hum wonders if it's a launch control programming issue.

Of course the launch control is what is generating the massive dump of energy into the drive train.

Bring back in the bad old days of the original pony cars, when available tire traction from 78 and 70-series bias-ply tires was but a fraction of that offered through today’s Z-rated 50 and 45-series gumballs. When Junior picked up his ‘69 Camaro 396 from the showroom and promptly pulled a 5,000 RPM launch from the first stop sign, those glorifed bicycle tires on back spun readily, acting as a mechanical fuse for drivetrain parts that otherwise would have grenaded or twisted like taffy.

Oh, who am I kidding? Those old pony cars broke on a regular basis as well. Perhaps GM should just replace “6,000″ on the Camaro’s tachometer with “$6,000″. Maybe then those aging boomers would stop side-stepping the clutch pedal.

BTW, there’s nothing more ironic than seeing an new orange Camaro, bestriped and shod with massive rims, driving down the highway for 20 minutes with the left turn signal on…

Now that's funny right there !!!!

So you want them to write a letter to all Camaro owners and say "your car is OK"? That's kinda ridiculous.... You can assume your car is OK until told or you find otherwise. Besides, your son's car was built long before these problems started showing up. There's no reason at all to think his would be affected by this.

Its been proven here that the cars that will break do on the first hard launch or shift, sooooo the easiest way to alay all fears is find a time where you don't need to be somewhere (cause if the car breaks you will be busy for a couple hours), and a clear stretch of road or parking lot where there are no cops. Engage and test launch control. If it works and your car doesn't blow up, you're set. If it does break, press the onstar button, get towed to the dealer, and a new transmission will be installed within 2 days. You're gonna need the new transmission either way, why beat around the bush and worry.

I don't see how it could be launch control related. Isn't that only on the automatics? And the failures are only on manuals.

Launch control is on the manuals, but there is no way the issue is caused by it. For the type of clean break that was happening to those output shafts Tremec had to have screwed something up with the integrity of the metal on a small batch of transmissions. A factory clutch should burn out long, long before you ever snap an output shaft that was cast/forged right.

I plan on doing this in my dealers lot in front of the service department, that way if it breaks, I wont need a tow.

^^^A6 launch control???

Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a letter, Tom, like Rogue and others said, if it's hasn't broken yet you're son's good to go. I've had mine up on a lift and didn't even think to check out the battery cable just to see what kind of fix the factory did on it. It works, that's all I care about.
