Its a state law in Massachusetts. I have co workers that have theirs replaced multiple times a winter due to rocks etc from passing cars or trucks (mostly cheap windshields in foriegn cars like Toyotas). Just remember to tell the window replacement company that you have a heads up display so they get you the right replacement windshield.

There is always one... You turned in a $200 claim to your insurance company? Rates stayed the same?? I bet they did. I live in New Jersey, I am a truck driver, never turned in a claim to an insurance company, if I ever do, it will be for more than $200. I'm not doubting that you have the greatest insurance company ever, but around here I'm trying to keep my rates down. I'm sure your company got that $200 back from you , they aren't in business to give money away. Happy New Year!

and my insurance covers windshield replacements for zero deductible for a max of $700 per windshield max of 3 times per year per vehicle which is part of the comprehensive coverage. -- It amazes me that people will willingly fork over their money for insurance coverage and not have a clue what they are actually covered for and not lay a claim for things they should; in fear of the "rates going up" I'm pretty sure that in all States with the exception of maybe those that have a no-fault law (New York, Florida, and Michigan) that unless you have an accident where you are found to be at fault (even partial fault) your rates cannot be raised. I made claim for being keyed, cost my insurance $11,000 to repaint my vandalized vehicle and no rate increase, as a matter of fact I saw a rate reduction that year because I had passed the 10 year mark with no at fault claims. People need to read their policies, ask questions, and fully understand the laws regarding their coverage before presuming that they will automatically get a rate hike if they make any type of claim. And by read your policy I mean the full policy, not the stupid little handout your agent gives you, my policy (which I had to request in writing for the full thing) is over 400 pages of 6 point print.

My rates didn't budge. I even got them to order the windshield direct from the dealer so it would stay all GM.

Avoid Using Insurance If Possible
I recently had my auto carrier in Massachusetts raise their rates in general. I shopped my policy around but I was not able to get the lowest rates possible due to 2 glass losses.
Some carriers use glass losses in their underwriting determinations. Once the policy is written I don't think your rates increase but you may not be eligible for coverage from the lowest cost companies. Massachusetts used to require full glass coverage but that is no longer the case. Carriers can sell policies with a deductible. |

As other suggested, contact your insurance agent as your glass most likely covered under comprehensive.
Over a period of many years and different autos had two windshields crack due to extreme outside cold and high defroster temp. Worst case was back in the 70s and driving a new Cadillac convertible. Extreme cold outside, high temp on the inside, turned into a beach front parking lot, hit by a cold wind blast coming from the ocean and door window glass facing ocean side exploded and fell away. Damn, that was a very cold drive home. |

My dad would always warn me about defroster on cold mornings. Cold to hot too fast and the glass cracks...that was back in the 80's-90's.

I believe these windshields are a LOT more than $200.
You pay $1400 a year for full coverage with no accidents? I would shop that around, or NJ has outrageous rates. Mine is about $600 a year here in VA.
