I would probably leave it on for street driving and only take if off for a track day as long as it's not a PITA to take it off and put it on. But I imagine it's a few screws or a few of those nice plastic clips the automakers are so fond of.

Z/28's vent does have a pan/baffle, there is a picture in this article from R&T. Top down view, you can see it. What is different is the grilles are removed (increasing flow)on the Z/28 vent and it is made of carbon fiber.

They overheated it, should've removed the baffle

"Although ambient temperature is barely in the 80s, three hard laps are enough to send the Camaro's oil temperature around the dial and beyond the 300-degree mark.

"Unacceptable in any high-performance street car," Cammisa gripes, "especially one with this much track capability." The Aston and Nissan have been getting hot, but not like this. It's a reminder that the Z/28 is fundamentally a development beyond what was originally intended for the Camaro platform."

The last sentence in that paragraph was ouch!

I sure wish I could believe that removing the baffle would have made a significant difference. You really believe that?

Took mine off first day i got the car as far as engine getting soaked never had a problem and its pours down here in Orlando, Also once the tray is out and you come to a stop watch the heat just pour out of those vents so yes this does work great just my 2 cents

IIRC, our owners manual states that it should be removed for track use.

Page 9-6:

"If operating a Z/28 on a closed course during hot temperatures, reduce the coolant/water mixture to a 30/70 mix and increase under hood airflow by removing the water deflector on the engine side of the hood scoop"

Now I do believe that for maximum flow out of the vent, the under vehicle belly pan should be installed. I have done that.

Wow! This is the first time I ever hear of increasing the coolant ratio to help with cooling

I thought it was the other way around. To increase water ratio vs coolant, to something like 40/60 in favour of H2O and add a bottle of WaterWetter for good measure.

Discuss?

Always ready to learn something new
