You might want to take one of those "Dam Tours" like the Griswolds in the movie "Vegas Vacation"

check out some of the casinos away from the strip. I like the one attached to the Bass Pro Shop SE of the strip. Their aquarium is pretty cool. Also, use Koval st (Runs parallel to Las Vegas Blvd just East) and you can get in and out of the parking garage at the Flamingo easily.
Less formal gambling areas at the Flamingo, Wild Bills, and Imperial Palace. Cheap place to get beer at the outdoor bar on the South corner of the Flamingo as well as the gift shop up front). Check out the car display on the top floor of Imperial Palace. Stop by the Boulder Brewing Co for lunch and a cold one (on the way to the Hoover Dam). Really good prime rib that is still cheap < $12 at the Rainbow Club a small casino in Henderson, NV). Exotics Racing was really fun. I drove the the Lambo LP460....awesome!

Imperial Palace is now called "The Quad", the auto collection there is amazing, check it out.
The wife and I try to go at a minimum of once a year, but we are there to cut loose (drink until we don't feel feelings anymore). We've only rented a car once while there, drove it out of town and back into town and that was it. The monorail is great if you want to get up and down the strip. Be aware that the last stop at the LVH on one end and that is a couple blocks off the main strip. You have to walk through a seedy area if you want to visit the hotels on the strip from there. How do you want to spend your time? The Dam tours are good, shows are typically good. But like others have said, you're not going to find a $2 steak anymore.

blue man group is an excellent show, and the price isn't too bad.
the shark reef at mandalay bay is pretty cool. you can check out penguins, flamingos, dolphins, tigers at the mirage.

When my wife and I were there in February 2002 we took a one day bus tour to the Grand Canyon. It was supposed to include a tour of Hoover Dam but that part had been canceled because of 9/11.
We also ate at the Stratosphere and went to the Star Trek experience at the Hilton. I don't know if it's still there. I just checked, it closed in 2008.

Since the wife and I are going in March we have been doing research on some things we want to do. Maverick Helicopter tours seem to be the most popular for the Grand Canyon as far as they go, prices range from about $300-$550 per person depending on what you want to see (sunset tour with a stop for a snack in the grand canyon).
Check this out as well. http://stores.ebay.com/VEGAS4LOCALS

I would also suggest this while you are at the Hoover Dam http://blackcanyonadventures.com We also did a Hummer Tour though the desert…that was a blast. http://www.rebeladventuretours.com Even just walking around looking at each Hotel on the strip is a great time. There are 5 or 6 roller coasters on the strip that will put theme parks to shame…..

Grand Canyon is pretty cool, may be fun to camp out there a night. There is also a war plane museum on the way out there. Some of the Casinos have great roller coasters, one of the best coasters IMO on the planet is at the casino just outside of vegas, the Desperado I think is the name of the coaster, its worth going if you are a coaster fan. Also liked the NYNY coaster, but I've heard its a little rough these days. The Volcano and White Tigers are kind of cool at the Mirage, and I believe its the Mirage that has a really great pool with a bunch of waterfalls. I would get in a lot of pool time. I have a friend that is a great singer, catch her show if its playing her name is Elisa Furr she does a great Celine Deone show. Shame your married, so much more for a single guy to do in Vegas ha ha ha.

The one thing that I hated about Las Vegas were all the people trying to get you to take those nudie show flyers they were handing out every few feet along the strip. My wife really got mad at a few of those guys. Do they still allow that?
