I own a 2011 v6 2ls. brought it brand new with 5 miles on it. currently has 60k miles just came across my first problem. Noticed my gears was changing at higher rpms then normal. almost redlined and didnt noticed it until the last minute. Took my car to Chevy yesterday, Was told they had to reprogram something and then they will test it with a computer hooked up to it today. Bad part about this all, is that im not sure if its covered by warranty. well atleast thats what the service guy told me (those guys).

That being stated don't buy a car that's been ragged(if you can tell) and take care of it, it will last.

Your question is completely subjective. There is no way to get a definitive answer. So here goes. I have had two Japanese cars in my life (both Hondas) and they were the biggest piece of junk one could own. I have had nine American cars and I have had very little trouble. I had to have a seat cover replaced on my Chevrolet pickup and it has over 100,000 miles. My Camaro had to have a CV boot replaced because it was leaking at the band clamp. So not many problems here that I can remember.
Not to be disrespectful but, you OP seem to be prejudiced against American cars, so perhaps you should stick with your Hondas. That way should you happen to have a problem down the road, you cannot come back and say what a piece of junk your American car was and you wished you had kept your Japanese car.

See, those pesky oil changes. Damn American cars and their need for oil changes.

How well do you take care of your car?
Let's put things into context. A Honda Civic is a relatively light weight 4 cylinder motor with not much horsepower and very low torque. A stock Camaro has vastly more power, carries more weight and has a much greater ability to "break itself." Because of this, you can't abuse a Camaro like you can a Civic. You can mash your foot to the floor to a Civic all day and it's going to hang in there better than a Camaro. That's just the nature of the beast, so keep that in mind. Also, if you're driving a V8, remember that the clearances in the motor are significantly greater. That means a greater chance of oil blowby and greater emissions output, so parts will collect carbon build-up faster. Again, that is just the nature of the beast. However, factor in the simplicity of the Camaro's design versus a Civic. I have a lot of difficulty working on Japanese cars...hell, any motor that has an overhead cam setup. Open the hood of a Camaro SS and what do you see? You see all your belts and hoses right there in front of you. You have an intake dead center in the engine bay. You can reach and grab every single spark plug and wire. You're looking right at the water pup. It is a beautiful, clean, centered setup. You can get parts at virtually any junk yard because GM's parts are constantly interchangeable from vehicle to vehicle. The aftermarket is enormous and extremely competitive. You don't get any of this stuff with a Honda. The vehicles are a pain in the neck to work on because everything is buried or mounted 90 degrees. I have to take off the right front passenger tire to change a serpentine belt on my girlfriend's Toyota Highlander. WHAT? The parts are much more scarce and much more expensive in general. Comparing a big, heavy V8 to a little I4, it is going to be tough for the V8 to come out as a more reliable vehicle. But factor in how much less expensive it is to fix a problem when you consider parts and labor and how much easier and cheaper maintenance tends to be and the gap narrows. Now, compare apples to apples - a GM V8 vs an import V8. Now, the GM is going to sprint away in terms of reliability. |

Give your car regular attention and maintenance and it will run for years. Doesn't matter if it is American or not, you don't change the oil its going to blow.
