Sonic already has excellent handling characteristics thanks to the Corvette guys tuning its suspension, it just needs the 1.6T from Europe to make it a decent hot hatch.

And despite how crappy the Cobalt was material wise, Cobalt SS was another decent performer in its day.

GM has the expertise to make these small cars into legitimate performance cars. They're just too damn risk-averse to do so.

Probably because they screwed it up once already by slapping SS on anything to make a quick $. The Cobalt was an outlier but does prove they can do it.

I'd love to see it executed, properly.

And it's not like GM doesn't currently build performance compacts.

LOL you now what though...that might just be the kind of fun project that could take off. Look how popular the PT Cruiser was. I may just file that in the back of my mind as a future project.

The Cruze is more along the platform size I was thinking of; problem is, it's a FWD and I'd want a RWD platform. The Spark and Sonic would be an interesting challenge because of their size, but heck... I remember how popular the little MGB's, Austin Healey's and Triumph's were back in the day. A 5-door hatchback sports/mini-muscle car would be a design challenge but that would be right in the ball park for the crowd that loves to mod the small Honda, Mazda and Toyota cars. The price point would be ideal too; $14k-$18k.

This is exactly why I ended up buying one of the last Altima coupes that was made. It appears sporty coupes are a dying breed. I don't need or want 4 doors and I want even my daily driver to have a sporty/sexy vibe. So to answer your question in short..........................Yes.

How about a modern version of this with a 2.4L engine standard and a 2.0L Turbo as an option. Make it light, nimble and RWD to compete with the FR-S.

An AWD turbo Spark would be interesting.

IF (capitalized-italix'd) a Nomad were to be deemed worthy on a Biz Case basis, I think it would require the smallest version of Alpha, possible. Which would mean a starting price point of at least mid-$20s, even as an n/a 4-cylinder.

The following Nomad concepts, iirc, were built on Kappa (Solstice) which is too short, too expen$ive and, therefore, no longer viable...

The disadvantages of small RWD vehicles are weight (= poorer CAFE #s) and packaging, relative to a similar-sized FWD. There was a reason the X- and J-cars were conceived 30-some years ago, and those reasons still exist, unfortunately.

The Code-130r concept was the most recent small RWD concept considered by GM, and it's final fate remains unknown...

Spark concepts, worthy of SS consideration: https://www.google.ca/search?q=chevr...w=1600&bih=753

I was thinking more along the lines of a Dodge Magnum, but I would be interested to see what you come up with when you have time.

I really like the front of the first one and the back of the last one. I agree the Solstice platform wouldn't cut it. It really needs to be size of the new Impala for it to feel like a real wagon and not just a low-slung hatchback.

They should take the Tru 140 concept, make it a mid engine turbo 4 or N/A v6 and call it a Corvair.

How sick would that be?

That's actually a very cool idea for a small sport coupe. It would separate it from the FR-S/BRZ crowd!

Would be kinda cool. It's Delta-II though.

And I'm hoping it ends up being a Cruze Coupe with the D2XX model.
