Hi everyone - been having around in the 5th Gen forum and decided to wander over hear. This thread is very promising to me as I have a 1986 IROC (original driver) and am keeping her. I knew one day that the car would start to increase in value. I do high many, many, many kms (miles) on it but am looking to rebuild the engine (actually not me - my hubby's job to do that). Original everything on it and it does need some minor work (small bubbles on the left wheel well) but nothing major. Now that I am a proud owner of the 2010 2SS we can take the time to baby the '86. Once it is done, then I have 2 to pick from on any given day.

Parts for those years are easy to come by. When I was working at the salvage yard we had three 3rd gen Camaros(1 IROC and 2 Berlinettas) sitting out back being picked apart. I had to hunt for parts for my 69 Camaro. Made many a trip to RI and NH

I would offer a bit less, like the other posters have said. But I would KILL to have under 7k on an 80s vehicle! My 06 Hyundai has over 83k on it!

Thats a pretty clean car.. miles are fantastic.. only problem is it's the 305 engine. and the wheel package is horride. 'I wouldnt buy it for $19,000.

Far from it man. Have you tried to find pieces for a 3rd gen. You cant get anything other than Electrical and Mechanical. Try to find interior trim pieces, its damn near impossible. I have a converible I am trying to restore and cant find anything for it. I have tried Year One, Classic Industries, Paddock, Ecklers, Classic Chevy, etc.....noone carries parts for 82-92, its all crap mechanic parts that you can pick up at any Pep Boys or Auto Zone.

If prices are that bad find a V6 car n make changes as needed.

Or even start with a shell. End up with a nicer car in the end still $$$.

Yeah, I've tried to find part at the junk yard around the area a couple years ago and couldn't find anything. There are some on craigslist parting out their Camaro.

3rd gen

I have 2 third gen camaro's. They both need work but the one needs front end work which the other car has all the parts for. They are 25th anniversary i beleive. My husband wants to fix the one, but he doesn't have the time. The one i was driving and it does still run. It needs the fenders replaced, radiator and I'm not sure what else, but they are all on the other car.

Here you go, found you a car while browsing ebay. Not sure where you are from but this looks like a deal in Hanna City, IL.

BTW for that those of you that dont know, the 3rd gens never came from the factory with a 350 and a manual.[/QUOTE]

Actually, they did. When the IROC first came out in '87, it was an option (extra). Not a model, such as a 2ss rs. It was like adding on ground fx.
I actually owned a 5.7 5 speed and had to deal with this same, "they didn't make a ........" when I needed to replace the clutch.

And as far as price, my 87 iroc auto with over 100k, appraised for 10k. And the interior is no where near as nice yet.

It was a rare your state or dealer only option then.
As the 350 stick 3rd gens coudln't pass the Cal smog test on down shift rules.
Which means if it can't be 50state legal, GM don't sell it everywhere. And could only be a dealer option where legal.

That rumor is also use to explain/prove that the T5 is "weak" it was blamed for no 350 as GM said it wouldn't hold up. Which is crap, can find guys on TGO with built 400s racing a T5 but they know how to shift. Where others with a stock 305 can blow one every week.

sub 10k mile IROCs, Z28s, GTAs and other specialty thirdgens can and will sell for $20k and more. There are enough people who want these cars that they DO pull in that kind of money. Keep in mind that thirdgens with that kind of milage are rare cars, so they are capable of pulling in the money. Camaros aren't like Corvettes... 90% of the 80s corvettes out there are low mile garage queens, so finding a low mile mint one is easy. If you want a low mile mint thirdgen, you've got to pay for it.
