Aww man.. I'm so ashaaamed. I paid $1000 over msrp. BUT.. the sales guy made it up on my trade-in AND I didn't pre-order. At the time I could only find 2 camaros within a 150 mile radius of where I live. The other dealer wanted $3000 over msrp and didn't want to give me what my trade-in was worth. I hate that we paid mark-up but it was worth it to be the first in town to have one. There's still only 2 that I know of.

I have yet to even talk to a dealer seriously about ordering one.

I knew this would happen. So, I am just waiting untill winter. Go car shoping in a snowstorm. Always the best deals.

My last car I got the price I wanted because I bought it December, and I remember spending almost 2 hours at the dealer, he wouldn't go down to my price, so I told him you have my name, number, all my info. When you are ready to sell the car at my price you can give me a call.

I got up to leave and he jumped up, ran to his sales manager, and got me my price.

I'm glad everyone who has already purchased a Camaro is happy, but good weather + all new gotta have car = good luck getting a good price on it.

I'd never even pay sticker, let alone a penny above.

I know it's a Camaro but everyone who's already purchased one has already lost at least 20% of the sticker price, and if you paid more than sticker you really lost your socks.

So, my question is:
Who the hell are paying these crazy markups???? Really!?!? I hope no one from Camaro5.
Which dealership?

Local dealer has quite a few Camaros...over 15 on the lot maybe closer to 20. Wanna know why those things are still there??? They have 3 in the showroom with stickers over 50k...one was going for 53k YIKES!

They have quite a few orders just sitting there which they won't be able to place until allocation clears up, which isn't happening anytime soon. LOL

They should be one of the ones getting shut down. That's rediculous!

In 2 years, I think they will be discounting them all over the place like the rest of the Chevy line, once the mania over the brand new Camaro is over. I want to pay LESS than MSRP for mine- I have never paid sticker for any new car.

Just look at the Challenger- they were MSRP and above when new, but you can get discounts on them now all day long.

Guys, no offense but I don't understand why people are bothered so much about other people paying more than MSRP. In Southern CA, it is not unusual at all for dealers to mark up "in-demand" cars. It is the demographical location and people can afford to pay. You got your deal at MSRP, you are happy, GREAT! I am happy for you. I got my deal, I paid over MSRP, I am happy, GREAT! So, what is the big deal? Again, no offense intended.

The last car show I was at, people mob us wanting to know all about it and where to get one. Some guy even called his wife and had her come out and look at it. I make sure they know what dealer is charging MSRP and which one is charging over. Than they make whatever decision they want. I just want to make sure that GM is not getting a bad rep for this behaviour.

Fools are paying mark-up. Or those with more money than brains/Patience. Sorry this mark-up ticks me off. Wanting MSRP is fine...

You could have ordered below MSRP from an out of state dealer and had the car drop shipped to your local dealer and saved a ton of money that could have been used for other things.. All it would haave taken was a phone call. There are quite a few internet salespeople on this forum selling and taking orders at or below MSRP with a discount that they accept as well. I bouhgt mine from Classic Chevrolet in Grapveine Texas while I live in Miami.. Why? Because it saved me over $5,000 which is the average markup here...

If autozone or discount auto parts is selling oil at less than half the price but a little further away however your dealer charges double for the same oil and is closer to where you live. Would you choose to drive a slightly greater distance to buy the oil yourself and save some money? Or would you go to the dealer and pay double simply because it is more convenient?

In the case of the Camaro, if you had ordered from Classic or Camaroscotty as I have and many others, you could have gotten the Camaro just as fast if not faster with the pre-order and have it drop shipped to the dealer closest to you. You pick up the car just the same and save yourself some money...

I wish more of you would do this so that these markups wouldn't be so high for everyone else..

I could have but had no desire to do so. The hassle of ordering and waiting is enough as is without having to deal with out of state dealer, CA DMV and potentially forking out more $ to them and unnecessary inspections to ensure the Car meets CA Emissions, etc. and I am okay on $$ for those "other things"...but I see your pointAll it would haave taken was a phone call. Also, it depends on how soon I want the item. Would you choose to drive a slightly greater distance to buy the oil yourself and save some money? Or would you go to the dealer and pay double simply because it is more convenient? depends, if I didn't feel like driving farther and paying extra $$ doesn't really hurt my pocket....i guess I can try to make this argument all day and some will just never understand

You pick up the car just the same and save yourself some money... I doubt CamaroScotty or anyone else would have gotten me a car sooner, not at the very time when I placed my order. I had No wait, ordered and same day into the system allocation order, 5-days to 3000, awesome dealer, getting some of the $$ back by getting GFX painted no extra $$. I am okay with spending more for convenience. So that might be a problem for some people. I am not rich but paying over MSRP doesn't hurt or take away food from the table either. Did I pay $5k over, nope.

I wish more of you would do this so that these markups wouldn't be so high for everyone else..It is much to do with demographics and supply and demand
my answer in red above

and I don't completely disagree with someone saying "people who pay more have more money than brains/patience" but that sounded like a jealousy attack. I am not stupid but I am impatient for sure.

brains/patience I probably should have not included brains :(. just more money than patience, just every time someone pays mark-up more dealers will demand it is all. I paid GMS, but had to get it in Michigan, which is no big deal..
