Speaking from my one year experience working at a new car dealership in 2009

Most dealers cater to a main stream customer and many dealership salespeople have a difficult time explaining features included from the factory. My salesperson said Bluetooth audio streaming was included in my 1SS during the test drive but discovered it wasn't included during the delivery presentation. The same salesperson would have a difficult time explaining the rough idle of my cam to the average buyer. If you bought a new Camaro with the RS Package did the salesperson explain the benefits and short comings of Summer Tires vs All Season Tires? I didn't think so...

Specialty dealers attract buyers interested in modified cars and possibly have salespeople that could explain the operation of modified car. I've noticed several members of Camaro5 may work at specialty dealerships from their posts here on the forum.

The typical dealer will take a modified car and wholesale it, regarding it as a problem inventory unit.

I was told by the owner of the dealership where I bought our car the reason for mods not helping on a car is because the car has a value based on blue book . So when they go to sell it the bank will only finance that value . The Bank wont finance for extra stuff on a car that they don't know or understand . So bottom line it's not part of the original value of the car .

If your car is heavily modified, develop a good relationship with one or more of the sales people at the dealership. If they know your car and have a customer looking for something a little different, they will push that customer to you. If/when you sell the car, kick some money back to the sales person.

And, of course, buy your next car from that sales person.

Working as a service advisor(who handles all the used cars that come through) we actually have to return the vehicle back to stock before we can put it back on the lot. Reason being is because if the vehicle happens to have issues because of the parts that are put on, warrantys will not cover these selected items.

When I traded in my V6 they were going to give me the same trade dollars with them on or off. Needless to say I removed everything I could and they gave me 3 days to do it, after I filled out all the paper work on the new car. After selling what mods I couldn't put on the V8 I had an addition 2200 for new mods.
