It's not the same dealership I purchased from, paddock chevrolet is the the one I just went to because it was close by. I'll try the original dealership, they were very fair with me when I traded my G8 GT in for the camaro so id hope they'd be the same with this. Kbb in my area puts trade in a little over $35K private party around $37K and retail at $39K on my car with the 5700 miles on it

The car business has changed. Not much money in sales anymore. They loose money on one deal, then have to make it back on the next. Just make sure you are the one they loose money!
The way that the business has changed is in how the dealerships see their profit. They complained that customers could go online, figure out invoice then would demand the car at that price. It used to be around 12% under MSRP.

If you've noticed in the past few years things have changed so that invoice is now only ~$1000 under MSRP. Dealers will sell you a car at invoice all day long because that isn't where the money is. It is in volume. If they meet their numbers at the end of the quarter they get A from the manufacturer. If they make it to the next step they get A + B and so on.

Go to any of the major auto information web sites and get numbers. You should be able to match the car you are buying exactly, so that the MSRP on the web site is identical to the MSRP on the car you want. The web site should then tell you what to expect to pay for the car in your area. Do the same thing for the car you are trading.

Take those numbers to the dealership and tell them that is your no-compromise offer. They can take it or leave it. They will make money on the deal, and you won't get ripped off. It's certainly not going to get you a screaming deal that you can brag about, but it will be reasonable. And if the dealer doesn't take the deal, then they're more interested in ripping you off than making a deal. In that case, the best thing to do is walk.

My wife's car reached 220k miles last summer and started having little things break. We could have kept fixing them, probably for another 100k miles, but I like my wife's car to be bullet-proof reliable. So when one of the cats failed last fall, we traded it for a new car. Since we wanted a car right away, with no hassle, I did what I recommended above. Two hours after we found the car that she wanted, we drove home in it.

If you're just casually shopping for a toy car, you have lots more room to make a great deal. You need to find the right car on a dealer's lot, at a time when they really want to move it. I did this when I bought my Camaro and got one of the better deals I've made on a new car. It's all about timing and circumstances.

No dealer uses kbb. Dealers use galves. You would be suprised at how much lower the figures are.

There isn't nearly that big of a difference between invoice and sticker. We represent auto dealers. New car dealerships make their money on volume incentives from manufacturers, used cars and service. Not necessarily in that order.

Then that is a rough break. Try West Herr, I have found Paddock to be unreasonable at times.

Unless you live out in the country would use a 4x4 pickup a lot, I don't see a new Silverado as a practical vehicle, especially with a year old 1LE trade in.

The dealer only offered me $17k for my 2011 1LT. I know they will turn around and sell it for $25k so I was telling them they could get the trade in value to $20k. But they didn't want to play ball. Maybe they will call me back when they actually want to sell a car.

dealers typically offer Manheim Auction prices, then cut another $2000 - $3000 for "dealer prep fees" which usually means an oil change and a car wash.

trading in is normally a no win situation for the buyer, the dealer on the other hand..

I traded in my 2010 Avalanche for the Camaro,

I paid $42K OTD for a dealer demo truck with 9,000 miles on it but it was never titled so it was still considered a new vehicle dale, Sticker on it was $54K.

owned it 2 years, put 15K miles on it and I owed $21K on it at time of trade, I got $38K for the trade, dealer turned around and sold that truck for $45K USED which is more than I paid OTD new..

Couldn't say it better. Dealers go by auction prices.

Plus with the "new ones" coming out they won't give you much. Never try and trade in when a new generation is about to be released.
