Man I wish my parents paid for a new car for me when I was 17! My parents were very well off when I was that age but they still made me earn my wheels.
If asked my parents if I could take their car to the drag strip they would have a hell of a laugh!! Especially if I could not afford the repairs and if they were paying the insurance and payments! If my kids asked me I would tell them the same. My advice is don't bother convincing her to do this because you know this isn't right. If you don't well then good luck! If it was the right thing to do then you would not have to convince of her of anything. |

Well going to the drag strip beats street racing and getting tickets and crashing into others or hurting other people and their property. Try to go with that. That's why I myself go to track now.

Not only do you have to convince her, she has to sign a parental consent form at the track or at a notary in order for you to race...at least here in Jersey.

It has nothing to do with who owns the car and pays the insurance. It has to do with living under your parents roof and living by their rules. As long as you live by those rules you will be fine. I know you don't understand, but just coming here and asking for advice on how to convince your mom to break her own rule, shows that you are not mature enough to drag race. Wait until later in life and do what you know to be right.

I would go through a professional driving school course. You can use their Camaros or Vettes and learn from professionals. There are plenty of older drivers out there who thought racing was easy...and hit the wall.
All street cars were designed so that grandma could go to the dealer and drive it off the lot. They aren't really race cars, so the idea that going to the drag strip to see what you and the car can do has already been done. Do something different...go to driving / racing schools to learn how to handle stock Camaros. Just my .02. |

I cant believe these posts; His mom said no, and that should be the end of the conversation! If he cant understand why his mom says no, clearly he is not mature enough to track the car. That's what's wrong with lots of teenagers these days; they think they have it all figure out! Look at the big picture young man. What do you gain if something goes wrong? Respect your moms wishes. If you don't like it, put your coins together and buy your own wheels and do as you please.

Ok his mom said no. It should be the end of it. However seems like he has an interest in cars and driving. Driving school is a better idea then drag racing. The mom can come also. Still both options are better then street racing. Yes or no? He has an itch and with a powerful car it will be soon that he might try to race his buddy in a Honda. Do you agree?
