If I lived in California, nobody would touch my car but Mitch Lanzini. His guys did a lot of work with Overhaulin'. Some of the best paint I have ever seen in person.

Good enough for Chip Foose, good enough for me, and yes expect a paint job worth it's salt to be $12 - $15K..........ESPECIALLY a High Pigment color like that Metallic Yellow.

White or Silver is always best. Most more metallic colors are transparent over Silver.

Yes it needs to be white. Sunrise Yellow is a pearl paint and pearls need the white base coat.

I would be happy with a paintjob that emulated the look, was durable and half the cost, I.E. stock Rally Yellow or perhaps even Velocity is good enough for me and my road car
Yea after figuring out the total cost I decided the factory Rally Yellow is close enough for me.

Just curious though if the paint is sanded down to the metal, for the most part, why does the base cost matter then?

Sunrize Pearl is $65.81/qt. Put it over white sealer. Clear it. Wet sand and buff. Done.

Here is a site where you can see how much materials cost. (it is a pearl base coat)

http://www.tcpglobal.com/hokpaint/cl...px?classno=H54

There are many GREAT painters out there who won't charge an arm and leg. The big cost is prep and finish not so much the materials.

Good luck to you!

Dave

Thankfully, you see it as I do. Its a simple job and the material is not earth shattering if you shop it. I would say anyone that could spray it and do at least as good as Jaguar OEM paint (acknowledged pretty much everywhere as a good factory paint job), you will have a fine paint job that is road worthy and good enough for 90% of us mere mortals to go out and have fun with.

Now if you are going with fades, ribbon stripes, ghost images you are talking a different ball of wax.

But I still maintain you buy the complete kit plus thinners combined with a stack of 40-50 Ben Franklins, there are guys out there that will jump at the chance to do this very basic job in the world of custom paint and keep their shop busy. Just try to avoid "insurance bodyshops", they are not the level of quality you want

WRONG!!!

Pearls do not need a white basecoat. My Black car has a Blue Pearl in it. I watched the process from start to finish and no white was ever used in the painting of my car. And the blue is KILLER.

To get the color on the BB I do believe it is over white. To achieve the Sunrise color that is on House of Colors paint chip, you have to use a white sealer or white base.

If you spray it over a different color base, the sunrise color will be different from the chip.

Hope this helps.

Black, dark gray's and dark blue's are the exceptions. These colors are dark enough that the color of the base coat won't effect the outcome that much. Other colors especially light colors such as Sunrise Yellow, require a white base to achieve it's true color. Using black and gray base will darken most colors and yellow while darkening some colors can also add a yellow tint as well.
