Since the LS is fairly popular, you may want to dip in the used market and see if you can find a gem w/ like 4-10k miles on it. Would probably save you a few bucks.... But if you want that new car feel, ya, I understand

You are correct. There is rarely ever an end to expenses, but there is an end to working simply to afford one's expenses.

No, I'm not signing for him, his credit is good. Just here to help him make a good decision and not get boned. I don't want a dealer to take advantage of him because he's a young man in the military without much experience as an adult. I feel like I'm doing the right thing, he's a long way from home. I'm his senior by 4yrs time in service, so its kinda my job to take care of him.

I just bought a 1LS. FYI, the dealer here in Hot Springs, AR has them at just less than $20k. It seemed like such a good value I couldn't pass it up. I paid basically $20,400 because I wanted the bright yellow color, which is a $395 option.

As retired Army I have helped lots of Soldiers buying their first car. Here how I look at it. If he has money saved up buy a car outright and get a credit card to do mods and pay it off every month (like someone said before). Reason being is at a young age and fresh in the military why get tied down to an unecessary bill. Plus if he gets this car then comes down on orders for a place he cannot take it he will have a new car that he is paying on that he is unable to drive. Honestly to me not until you reach SGT or a little older in age should you look at a new sports car that has a big price, insurance rates will be outrageous even with USAA they look at age and rank. This is my two cents but I have been through it at leat 40-50 times in my career.

TxBandit, you are doing a good thing... the dealerships located near military installations are NOTORIOUS for taking advantage of fresh new recruits, getting their first regular paycheck, and ready to buy. The crap that I saw around Ft. Riley Kansas was stunning... dealers trying to sell cars for five times Blue Book... no lie. They would offer financing at 40%, and tell the kiddos that this was a "really good deal!" The used cars were crap (helping one buddy look for a car, I discovered actual paper mache bodywork on what looked, at first glance, like a badass S & B T/A... poked through it with my FINGER!). Sadly, I saw many of my brothers in arms go down and buy these very cars, at these outrageous prices/ terms, because they had no mentor to guide them.

Thank- you for your service... both as a military man, and as a guy helping to guide another in the purchase of a car.

Ok, he got the car. '14 LS. $20k OTD, he got it at a just over 5% interest, with a payment close to $300. His insurance isn't insane, I tried to cover all the bases with him. He's been in about 1 1/2 years now and just came home from deployment. I think he did pretty good.

Good job, he's going to love the car, 325 hp nothing to sneeze at, hell my LLT's 312 is nothing to sneeze at. He can get used to driving a car with some hp and in a few years if he wants, move up to the V8, he'll have some maturity, experience by then...hell, I don't think I was ready for 325hp at 19, lol...

Here is a pic I snapped Right before he took it home....

He is just as proud of it as I am my 1LE. I told him not to take any shit for having a V6 Camaro, it makes more power than my Wife's '95 Z28 did when new

I wish my wife would let me pick one of these up for her and put the Z28 in the garage and use it for track days only. But oh no, she is too picky and too good to have a V6.....
