This weekend I replaced my converters with the JBA high flows and noticed that I too was missing that exact same bolt... I however was not lucky enough to hear or know when it fell out so who knows how long its been gone(I am the 3rd owner). I dont have access to a jack anymore and the dealer said it would cost me $118 just to look at my car...

It does look like there has been a wrench on it. Maybe even the wrong size.

Do you change your own oil?

reminds me of when i was young and did a tranny swap on my 68 beaumont.. driving to work the next morning, heard a loud bang. stopped looked underneath quick didnt see anything out of the ordinary so i carried on. now when it came time to leave work the sound of a starter being engaged as it bounces around on the header is ominous...lol . too many beers forgot to tighten the starter bolts....

I think you can buy a jack and jack stands for less than that. Bolt probably cost like $50 bucks at the dealer too... Minimum of an hour to replace. Sounds like a $300 bolt.

Great 'thread.' 'Cept for the one on the starter bolt! Did we determine if it had ever been worked on?

Nope, I meant what I wrote. That was sarcasm because he took it to a dealer for a $5 bolt and a 15 minute job.

The wear looks like it was from a worn fast lead socket when it was installed at the factory. We use them on our pulse tools when assembling transmisions. They allow you to engage the bolts without stopping the wrench

At the time of this thread no work had been done in this area of the car

Understood. The dealer stuff makes me nuts because they charge a premium sometimes for simple things.

Got access to a scissor jack and some cheap jack stands for safety precautions and I got that bolt in there.

Looks like every starter bolt I have works on with a GM motor. Glad you found it and where able to get it back in. If you did not find it there a chance in time the vibration of the starter would of easily worked the other bolt loose since it was holding all the weight it self. For anyone who's every replaced a starter they understand how damn heavy they are especially when your trying to not cross thread the bolts and holding the starter in place at the same time lol
