I used plastidip on mine. Came out really well and only took about 15 minutes to tape off both bowties. I did 4 coats of plastidip to completely cover the gold. It was about 4 weeks ago that I did my bowties and they still look new.

The easiest is to buy a set. The best looking I have seen is the work done by River City Creations (vender on here). DIY is the cheapest but not necessarily the easiest.
