After checking my insurance and running my license I was told I was free to go. So I won't be running one on my Camaro either. I figured if I only get stopped once in 10 years it is worth it to me.

You should move to Texas. You techinically can get away with just having it in your front windshield.

.....
Texas Transportation Code section 502.404(a) requires that a motor vehicle "display two license plates, at the 'front' and rear of the vehicle." Tex. Transp. Code Ann. § 502.404(a). The code does not define the "front" of a vehicle.

In State v. Losoya, 128 S.W.3d 413 (Tex. App. - Austin 2004, pet. ref'd) the Court of Appeals decided an issue very similar to that of my callers. In Losoya, the police testified they had noticed a pickup did not have a license plate mounted on the front bumper. Instead, the plate was wedged between the dashboard and windshield. As a result, the police stopped the vehicle believing a traffic violation had occurred. At the suppression hearing the police officer added he could see the license plate in the truck's front window.

The court found the term "front" ambiguous and looked to other factors to determine the meaning of the code section. The court said:

"While a place to display the license plate is usually found on the front bumper, the statute does not expressly require the use of this location. The display of the plate in some other place or manner is not inconsistent with the language or purpose of the statute. The officers testified that they could see the license plate in the windshield. We conclude that Losoya's display of his front license plate in the manner shown here did not violate section 502.404(a) as to give the officers grounds to reasonably suspect a violation of that statute."

We have to display the front tag Here in Virginia. But you do not have to drill holes in the bumper. Go to Lowe's or lumber supply and get a couple of toggle bolts, long enough to go through the tag bracket and behind the grill. Tighten the screws up and the bracket is secure. When the arms on the nut spreads out it will lock it into place behind the grill and hold the tag bracket.

I told the dealer to leave it off. I keep the plate in the glove box. If I need it I can put it up in the front window. Cops haven't even given it a second look. too busy with the thumbs up thing.

I just zip tied mine on. I have it upside down with the top edge of the bracket just under the top edge of the lower grill. I put some door edge trim on the sides where it rests against the bumper on the bottom. Does not look that bad when mounted low like this. Certainly better than drilling into the bumper.

Was told by my dealer today that they will not install/mount bracket unless I ask them to. He said unless you come up against an a**hole cop just looking to write a ticket, there shouldn't be a problem. I DO NOT want holes drilled into my front bumper.

I got a no drill bracket for my front plate. I had the dealer put it on when they prepped the car for delivery. The dealer liked it so much he asked where I got it so they could stock them. If you are interested in it, I got it on ebay. He sells them for all models with and without GFX:
http://stores.ebay.com/fdsell-Racing...&submit=Search

It uses existing bolts under the facia and it can be easily taken off for a car show.

My dealer said the same. I told them to put it on... the state requires it and I plan on drivin' my car!

I used zipties and 3m tape for now. Eventually (see: extra cash other than engine mods) I will get something a bit snazzier.

In my state you have to have um, but it's a fix it ticket so you can run without until you get stopped for it. I figured I would mount it behind the grill if and when I had to put it on.
