Some are doing both but I found out about the 7 cents because one celeb dumped 7 drops of ice water on his head to represent how much is actually going to treatment/research.

That's a bogus number, real budgets and expenditures are public information. Don't believe everything you see on the internet, there are always people looking to smear campaign someone/something.

Actually... the claim is not totally false, though it is a bit higher than the 7% claim. 27% goes toward research, the rest toward salaries, marketing, etc. Those things, however, can be important also. This can be confirmed by going to ALS's own website, where they post their public information (tax return). What is surprising, however, is that their large staff of executive earn salaries in the hundreds of thousands, each... with the president making nearly $400,000.00 per year in salary.

I agree that someone working a non-profit full time must earn a salary, but four hundred grand seems a bit... overboard. To note, I am the chairman of a 501c3 non-profit and I earn absolutely ZERO, and 100% of the funds the non-profit receives goes directly in to the cause.

One final note, I have wondered how many of the people taking the ALS challenge can tell someone what the "ALS" acronym stands for.

That said, I am in no way demeaning the cause and support the fight to cure the disease 100%.
