For more casual events like a cruise in or cars and coffee, or model specific shows like all corvette or Camaro, I could see taking a newer car... but traditional car shows should be more about 25+ year old cars IMO

Wait till your Camaro gets trumped by a PT Cruiser with Lambo doors. Kinda silly when you look around and see the variety of other cars. But I agree, clubbers tend to get the perks.

ya by me there's a big local charity show and a few people enter there beaters because its given to charity. I was going to take my car this year but had to work. I entered and paid the $15 fee anyway. I would have had the only manual 5th gen there that was made for go not just show.

I go to car shows to see what everyone else has done to their car. If someone appreciates and likes my car I thank them. Trophies and plaques are something to collect dust or box up and put away.

Think that's why most shows have a class for muscle & class for modern at the least. Street Rods & Muscle will always win the most at car shows due to popularity and some are big money trailer queens.

Agree in some aspects but how many of these restored cars are purchased and they have zero time invested? At least most of the modding of the newer cars is done by the owner.

This can be argued all day we all need to promote, support, and enjoy the car scene. Get younger people involved so they can carry this on

I have seen the same thing happen, I have also seen judges pick a friends car when other cars were more deserving. I was in a show in which a nice car when best of show but the engine bay was a disgrace, still can't figure that one out. I try and do shows that benefit the military, I couls care less if I don't win anything it just fun to see other cars and help out our military personnel.

Trophies? Lol.......who woulda thunk that a new car should get a trophy? Lol, ya i go to car shows and enter my car..........but mainly so i can have a sweet spot to park......thats my trophy!
Im old school when it comes to trophies for cars, when someone fully restores a classic and spends endless amounts of time and energy maintaining the car, im my opinion those folks deserve a trophy!
Anybody can mod and detail a newer car.....its easy! Heck they can even just take it to some shop and pay to have mods and details done on the car. To me, the only trophy they deserve is the pleasure of the result of their mods or detail work.
Trophies just sit there collecting dust until you die, then your kids just tnrow them all in the dumpster the trophies only have value to the individual that won them......and nobody else! The feeling that you get from donating to a good cause should be trophy enough...

Life goes on, unless you invested in a ton of show items and get your rocks of by collecting trophies then don't lose sleep over it. Ton of break downs on how cars are judged; legit shows have sponsored judges.

Your newer car would have to be pretty darn spectacular and beyond belief in order to merit beating some classic that has been totally restored or hot rod modified. That's just simple "Car guy" fact. It's still fun to see some newer cars at a car show, but the stuff that is really awesome is generally the real hot rods brought back from the past.

I go for the eye candy. Not to mention painter hookups. Wife wants real flames on her Mustang, so what better place to look at someone's work and get the name. I did get a trophy for kid's choice, which was cool, but totally unexpected. I think they had 6 trophies for that category. Taking the Z out, I get a lot of "I haven't seen one in person yet".

Been there, done that. I think a lot of people can't even recognize the modifications on the new muscle cars, so to them its just another car off the lot, which is just hilarious because any 60's car that is stock is just that, just another car off the lot.

Is your average "old school" guy going to notice the 1" drop or the seat covers are now a shade darker, probably not. Or how about the endless hours you spent fighting the factory ECU and exhaust CEL's just to put on a "simple" bolt on (which buy the way is exactly how it is on the older cars, simple).

Just skip the old school centric shows unless your there to see their cars, you get very little cred your new car even though you've done as much work and thought as anyone else there. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.
