glad to hear you visited SoCal and drove around in a yellow SS at that! No offense....but just be happy with your LT and stop comparing or trying to justify one way or another, this or that. Performance-wise, there is just no comparison in a stock LT to a stock SS unless you happen to rent was of the slow L99...and that might likely have been the case as I would tend to believe that car rental companies would choose to put the lower octane fuel in their rentals and it has been documented here the hugely negative effect that has on L99 performance. But it sounds like you are already really very happy with your LT and got into an SS already a bit biased.
So what do you think of SoCal? Hectic and laid back at the same time? Rude drivers?

so since bartking has leather seats, and his stilll goes all the way back, could this be an additional feature to the SS? some one with a 1SS should try and see how far back it goes. and then also some one that has a sun roof in a 1SS or 2LT should also try it, then we will have the all the possible seat/sun roof combos

But yeah my only real complaint was the seats, I guess no one here has really made a comparison yet. If others do though, I'd love to find out what other people's impressions are.

I do have to say though that even though I was sitting in a somewhat uncomfortable position, people looking at me assumed that I was so relaxed in the car.

Also a funny side bit (to me atleast). We were using XM and listening to classic rock stations as I was cruising around and having a blast. Sunday morning we're driving down through Marina Del Rey (was showing my buddy Venice Beach, Santa Monica, PCH, etc) when the signal ran out :( I guess the 3 month free sub that came with the car ran out. We then found out all over again how much regular radio sucks.

Similar experience but the big difference is that i rented 1LT to drive to ComicCon, San Diego

If you don't mind me asking, where did you rent the 2SS and how much? I had such a hard time finding the 2SS for my trip to ComicCon. 1LT wasn't bad since i enjoyed the heck out of it.

Not a fan of WOW so kinda bypassed Blizcon.

I think it's safe to assume that no one is renting an SS and filling it up with premium gas when they return it. We've learned recently that new cars being filled up with 87 octane is causing them to under perform even after many tanks of premium. With that said, I'm willing to bet that most if not all rental SSs are "under performing" due to grade of gas that renters put in them.

SoCal is alright. I lived there for about a year mid 2007 to mid 2008, got a place in Marina del Rey. Loved the temperate weather and low humidity. Very nice area, but it's definitely not a place that I want to live again, I prefer living away from the city and surrounded by trees and wildlife. Traffic sucks in LA too. That and motorcycles always freak me out since they seem to have free reign over the roads (motor cycle cops included).

Reading some of the posts where people have a 2SS or 2LT and aren't having issues with the seats, I see them mentioning not having a sunroof, so my question then is, are the seats really different when included with a sunroof?

And to the poster mentioning that I had a bias against the SS, no I don't think so. I enjoyed the hell out of the car, it could take off the line faster than my car, and was able to accelerate faster (than my 1LT) when already at speeds of 70 MPH, I guess I was just under the impression from other members on this forum that talk about how if you get a LS/LT instead of an SS that you'll regret it because it makes the V6 seem like a snail. I happen to think that the V6 is fast, but the SS is faster I don't regret my decision, and most likely I'll trade it in for an SS or Z/28 (if it's released) in 3 years or so.

Oh also, I rented it from Budget near LAX. It was $179 a day not including taxes. I splurged on renting it since I used Skymiles to fly out and back, and my buddy had Hilton Honor Points so the room at the Hilton was free. It was much better to ride in style with an SS instead of a regular sedan

Hmmmm. I live in Anaheim. Would you mind telling me where you rented this? My understanding is no companies rent out V8 sports car as the insurance to carry them is too expensive. I have only seen a few V6s around here for rent.

Strange. Avis is the one I did contact about an SS before I got my LT and they said they dont rent the V8s. The website says they do though. Might have to go check one out...

Some day when I have more time I'm going to start another argument [for fun] about horsepower vs. torque, vs drag times. These cars rock but they are not so fast that they will run over water. A lot of these 5th gen are going to get spanked unexpectedly by other cars. That's just the way it goes. Horsepower and 0-60/1/4 mile times are not expodential [sp] Example: if 300 hp gets the 1/4 mile in 14.0 600hp aint gonna get you there in 7.0. The faster you go the more hp, torque, and set up etc it takes to make a difference.
Expressed in a hp to final time ratio.

I say this because the difference between 426hp vs 300hp/320hp is going to depend on the individual cars and drivers
A well set up 300hp to 320hp car could easily give a 426hp a run for their money. And yes the V6 Camaro's are not going to beat the SS Camaros unless modified. But some of th smaller V8's out there may give them a run.

Whos buying a new Camaro to smoke every other car out there? Dont think anyone is that naive. If you want flat out power and to whip every car out there, get a street bike that will do 0-60 in 2 seconds, the quarter in 8 and be done with it.

I've rented a 1LT with a sunroof/cloth seats, and own a 2LT RS with leather. As far as I can tell, My 2LT leather seats lower farther then the ones in the 1LT. I am not sure however, how much clearance is lost because of the sunroof. I do know this though...I almost broke my neck when I got in the freakin rental...lol.

6ft tall btw...just in case anyone is keeping score.

The seats in my 2LT also go back far enough that they almost touch the back seats. As a matter of fact, the passenger seat comes to inside 2 inches of touching the back seat.

Keep in mind though it might not be just the front seats that are different, it might be the back seat as well. Obviously that isn't going to make a differance with the head clearance, but it would with the forward/back.

Its my guess that these seats are not an exact science and differ from car to car.
