Yes, I bought the spare tire when I ordered my Camaro.

Also I was quoted a price of $200.00 for lifetime balance, rotation and repair at Discount Tire for all 19" tires on the Camaro.

Good deal all around.

Does everyone with a V6 RS have a spare and if we have one then why not the SS??? Should I take my car back and get a pump and can or be happy. And if I get a flat can't I just put it in the back seat if it won't go thru the trunk opening? Thanks for any info.
The V6, even with the RS package, does not come with the Brembo brakes. Therefore, the donut will still fit the vehicle.

The V8, with the Brembo brakes, comes with the inflator deal. The donut will not fit over the Brembo brakes. That's the only reason the V8 cannot get a donut spare. If you want a spare for a V8, you would have to get a full-size spare, and I don't think a full size spare will fit in the indention in the trunk...

I don`t think it`s so much a warranty issue but more of a liability issue. If Pirelli where to approve of using a tire sealant and that tire where to fail, Pirelli might be held liable for approving this type of repair. Just a guess.

Well, you know, the goo that comes with the car is not meant to be a permanent repair. Maybe that's where people are getting confused. I can totally see some idiot getting a flat, squirting that crap in his tire and inflating the tire, and then trying to run down a drag strip...

I carry a spare and would encourage everyone else to do so, it does happen. the extra 22lbs is worth it for me.

Where'd you get the extra rim? From the dealer?

For what it's worth, I pulled the specs on the 2010 Mustang and from the base model to the GT the spare tire is standard equipment. Not sure about the Charger. Also, a can if GM's special "Fix a Flat" from the part's counter will be nearly $80! (Note: if you can buy one - as most dealers don't stock them) That is about a third of the cost of a new Yokahama AdvanST. Discount Tire is working to source me a cheap rim to see if it will fit the trun's tire well and over the battary - so I hope to know that by tomorrow AM. To me the real issue is that Customer Service at the new GM doesn't know cars. Every rep with "district" or "region" in their title ought to spend a month as a service writer at a dealer before being in charge of handling technical issues with customers. It would be the best training they could get -

So much for “10 penny nails.”

Hyundai Genesis Spare vs Sealant

Many of the comparisons written about the Gen. 5 Camaro reference the Hyundai Genesis, so I was curious how they handled the issue of a spare tire vs sealants. While I am no Hyundai fan, I think they deserve credit for this package : Jack 4.2 lbs, Lug wrench and jack handle 1.4 lbs, Spare tire (18″) 31.5 lbs. It bolts right up ands only marginally to the overall weight. Any drive wanting to shead a few pounds can leave the spare in the garage. For a spare, the wheel even looks "ok" relative to the donut rims of a few years ago.

Hopefully people that do use the goo aren't going to pump it up and go back up to 155mph but I don't think that a leak in a tire would lead to a blowout anyway if it was plugged. And definitely don't go 155 on your spare!

Yeah, but how much does it cost to call onstar? like $150ish is my guess?

It's free.

Free towing to the nearest dealer is included with the 5 year/100k mile warranty and is included in the Onstar subscription once the warranty expires.

So I wasted $50 on that sealant when I could have called Onstar. Good to know- wish I knew that before! Thanks!

Spare tire

I found a guy on ebay that sells a full size spare for the Camaro SS for around $450.00, depending on shipping. It fits the trunk wheel well and comes with a jack, handle and adapter to work with the SS oversized brakes. Gives a lot of piece of mind. You can contact him at: dumars14892@yahoo.com

He shipped the tire promptly by FedEx to my home. Solved a big problem that GM left us with.

Any questions, I'm at: sasunlover@yahoo.com
