You can't just look at the upside of a good track number begin published by a manufacturer. The downside is that if the buyers aren't as good a driver as Randy Probst (or similar), then they will never achieve those times. Then all the gripping and complaining starts...bad press! Letting third-parties publish numbers take the manufacturer out of the equation.

Ford doesn't publish their times because they are not as good as their competitors plain and simple.
Remember how they bragged about the 0-60 time on the new GT500? why? because it was better than the competitors, Period. Really, really think about it. What marketing department wouldn't want to publish times if they where better than their direct competitors? some one would get fired if they didn't publish them... The sole reason why this companies invest millions and millions of dollars in Marketing is to get the edge over its competitors... Being a car guy, i really have a lot of respect for the GT350 and im sure it will be a strong performer. but common lets not try and make excuses for why they don't publish times. If GM didn't publish times i would say the same thing about them.

There are published times for the GT500 on the Nordschleife, they just didn't come from Ford.

This is exactly what would happen:
Ford caves in to pressure and releases GT350R time that is better than Z/28 (hypothetically) "Big deal it beat a last gen platform on its way out" "Yeah but I bet it wasn't stock" Stuff like that. It's a lose/lose for Ford to release times and all it will do is muddy the waters. |
