To repeat what I just wrote in another thread:
I always go to the shop of my choice and go over what's needed. I tell them to use OEM parts. Then they contact the adjuster and negotiate. I have always gotten what I wanted. I also never talk to the other guy's insurance company...they will try to talk you down. I report the accident to my insurance company and then they duke it out with the other company. If both companies need to see the car, they work that out on their time. |

ask your dealer if they will match parts prices. Mine did and I ended up with oem windshield and headlights. There were several aftermarket parts that were higher than oem. Dealership credited me the difference.

SeaWolfLestat, sorry for what happened to your car :(
L99CAMA2011, how was the paint match, because that is one of my big concerns. And how long did it take your car to get fixed. DBHWT, do not worry about me, everyone who sees me thinks I am 24 years old. Rock-It Man, are you saying that you go to the dealer of your choice and have them contact the guys who estimates the cost for the insurance company and they work out a price? What I was gonna do is go to many dealers and bodyshops to get estimations, and then I will go to the insurance estimator guys and negotiate with him. |

Mr Fire, Unless you are experienced at handling insurance claims, I would let the repair facility deal with the appraiser. I have handled insurance claims and even I let my body shop do this. The body shop knows just what can be repaired and what needs to be replaced to put the car in the condition it was before the accident. If you live near Philadelphia I can suggest a great repair shop. If you are not close I would suggest that you take it to the dealer.
When done properly no one should be able to tell that the car was repaired. |

I think if they are only willing to pay aftermarket parts they have to have been approved federally, which most are from China and not approved... When my 01 M5 got rear ended they tried to only give us an aftermarket bumper. It was available, but not approved so I still got cut a check for the OE bumper and paint.
Looks like you'll need a door too, I think I see some damage |

It doesn't matter, if you take the check. Go to the shop of your choice. That shop will fix the car, and if the amount of parts and labor are more than the check, they will tell the insurance company and they will pay for it. Getting an estimate from the insurance company is just a ball park. There is no way for some guy that works for an insurance company to know exactly what it will cost to fix just from looking at it, the real cost comes from when the shop pulls it apart....and the insurance company is on the hook for that, not you. Also, they cant tell you where to fix your car, period.
