Sorry to hear :(

I'm 5,000 miles and 2 months away from losing my powertrain warranty as well and I get more paranoid each day. Any chance of a recording of that noise?

I hope the dealer gets you sorted and tosses a new engine in... If it's just a repair I guess you can wait out the 2016 like I'm doing and hope for a Synergy Green comeback!

I def shouldve recorded the noise. But i can tell you it started out so soft that I couldnt tell if it was the injectors or an exhaust leak... then it got louder until I could hear it over the radio. The tick never actually became the normal Rod Knock sound though. I'm guessing that since you've made it this far you're probably ok... maybe it was a bad batch of bearings or something... although it sounds like our build dates are pretty close.

Had the service manager ride with me in the car to hear the noise and he admitted that it shouldnt be making that noise.

As of this morning they have had numerous techs look at it and they cant seem to figure out what it is. The next step is probably tearing the motor apart. I got in contact with a GM rep just in case this how thing goes south.
I have a long standing rule for dealership repairs. They usually get it right on the third visit.

WOW!

Did you have the car since new or did you pick it up second hand?

Update: Well the service manager finally went over the motor and determined that he can't see any debris so it must not be there. The course of action they want to head towards is a straight repair of the rod bearing and crank shaft without a flushing of the block.

I'm not very comfortable with this plan of action because to me, and every other engine builder, this is a band aid repair to get me past the warranty in two months. I'm in contact with the GM reps and trying to get on the phone with a senior manager or someone that knows anything about motors.

I know theres a service rep in this forum. Can someone tag them or camaropete, Ive heard they can help with this process.

Interesting...I recall when my cousin had his 2011 in for a similar issue (rod #1) the dealer he used went over a PI with him saying that if the engine was to be repaired, that the block MUST be tanked and that there is an oil galley that is impossible to get to. I dug up his paperwork, #PIP5216 was the number they had.

arkentect,

Thanks for your post and update regarding the service process. It does appear that you may already have a GM case open with us, so feel free to click on our name and send over a private message at your earliest convenience. If you do contact us privately, please be sure to include your name, VIN/mileage, and case number if possible.

Kindly,

William R.

So finally... after 2 weeks of back and forth the fate of the car comes down to a decision. Repair it the way they want to without tanking the motor to remove everything OR I split the difference with them for the new motor ($2600+Tax). The new motor would come with a 3yr/100,000 mile warranty which definitely seems worth it to me. I just gotta bite that 2600 bitter pill.

What do you guys think?

Try talking them down on that price or counter offer with, " You guys can fix it how you want but I want that 3 year/100,000 mile warranty to go with it. Since you guys are so confident that it will work."

If they won't give you a warranty on their repair, that's not acceptable. Definitely get on the phone with GM Customer Care and voice your opinion. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, so they say.

That being said - always be polite.

Im not sure they are gonna be talked down from this number. The dealer has already lost money on this and I dont think they are willing to eat any more cost.

Mmmm I see your point. Well if they can't give you the 3year warranty on the repairs I would just buy the new motor. That would put you at ease A LOT more than them just repairing the broken part and closing your motor back up w/ a year warranty. $2600+ is a chunk of money but you're getting a brand new motor with that and some peace of mind. Good luck man.

Yeah I think thats the direction I'm gonna head with this... It was almost impossible to find a car like this one in the first place, and it's worth the 2600 not to have to go through the car buying process again.

Btw the injector noise your asking about is common in these motors. Its generally quieter at idle and it more prominent under harder acceleration. Its a rapid tick/wsssp noise under acc.
