If it just so happens to be "totaled" or whatever, I was thinking of getting an SS if its feasible. Actually, I don know what I want to do. Im just happy my kids weren't in the car.

*EDIT*

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Yep, and also stabilitrack likely won't save it either, ice is slippery stuff and it can only do so much to save the car. If it starts coming around quick enough momentum takes are regardless.

You're only defense on ice is if you see it, keep the throttle as neutral as possible and don't touch the brakes. Basically coast over it with little as possible steering and brake/throttle input. You don't want to back out of the throttle though, honestly if you had a manual the best thing to do would likely be push the clutch in and just keep the wheel as steady as possible.

If you didn't see the ice, well, luck of the draw unfortunately, if you were accelerating at all, most likely the back end is coming around.

I know in my SS with the torque of the V8 it will break traction in snow and summer tires at idle, even if you let the clutch out super slow. I expect even all seasons on ice would have the same effect.

Yeah thank goodness no one was with you. I'm sure they'll get the beast back on the road in no time.

Just saw the above response. I will def try to keep this post updated. I wish I would've taken pics. It will be towed before I get home most likely. I'll just drive by the shop if I can to take pics
I'll work with you to make it worth your while, if it will help, to send you two airbags out of my 2010 SS.

I installed a ten point cage and removed both of mine. I have no idea ht it would take to ship them to you but I'm willing to help if possible.

I'll certainly make you a great deal...

Given the small amount of body damage, and paint work needed, and the fact it's a 2012 2LT, I don't think they would total it. It's all going to depend on what the estimate comes back as, there could be a good bit of suspension damage that you can't see externally.

That is why I ask, I mean, I see people posting all the time about the difficulties with the summer P Zeroes, but I'm using the stock all seasons instead. Not that all seasons are great on ice, but I imagine they are a bit better than summer tires (at least at getting grip at low temps).

If you are on glare ice only specific winter tires will help, the kind that has a very soft compound and not recommended for use when temps are over 70°F. Believe me I found this out a few years ago in my HHR.

Guys, unless you're running chains or studs, there isn't a tire that's going to save you on ice. Only a healthy amount of caution (and luck!) can help. That, or simply staying off the road, but for a lot of people that actually drive their Camaro's, sometimes that's not a choice.

Sadly I have one car and I have to drive to work rain or shine, but at least here in VA we get a month of winter and 4 months of colder than normal.

I know you won't have grip on ice...but my thought it is, if it's just a patch, you'll have a better chance of regaining grip (sliding off the ice onto dry pavement) with non-summer tires (if that makes sense).

Makes since to me, though when I hit ice I take my foot off the gas and no brake then when I clear the patch I just let the car come to a stop and then when I feel confident I apply gas. But I do have all season tires.

Yea, Im in DC and my Camaro is a DD. I was literally doing about 20 and WHAM!! out of nowhere the brakes locked and I was tail whipping. I gained control for a second, but I was going down a slight hill. I think I slid about 40ft.

Im having insurance take of everything, as I have comprehensive/full coverage, etc...

Maybe, maybe not, if the car is already too out of shape, the best you could hope for is that maybe the all seasons would slow you down a bit quicker.

My invos grip pretty well, even in the cold so I doubt it would make much difference. However I hear P-Zeros are pretty lacking in traction in sub zero temps. I really don't think it would be a big enough difference to save it though if you out of control.

Actually that is not correct. While studs or chains are best for ice they actually are worse overall with no ice on dry roads. There are winter tires made with a special compound rubber that works very well on ice. I had a set on my Tracker a couple years ago and it was no problem under any condition.
