With no controls, if you ran a vacuum hose from the manifold to the exhaust actuators, it would be closed at idle then open up around 3500+ rpm. If you did not install the line at all, then it would be open all the time. There are aftermarket controllers that allow for complete control of the NPP exhaust on retrofitted cars, not to be confused with the "mild to wild" switch that is for cars with factory NPP. I build my own controller pretty cheap, I just haven't had a chance to do a diy thread or anything. Please excuse the messy wiring, it was during testing. I have since removed the wireless controller and went to a manual rocker switch, I like it better.

If you have the factory NPP, it would be more difficult to make it close at idle, because the factory controller opens it at idle. You would need to add a bypass valve to apply vacuum to the actuators at idle. The way I did mine is specific to the valve setup I have on my retrofit, and I use a 3 way rocker switch, so I can have it open all the time, closed all the time, or operate with closed at idle/open while accelerating automatically.

That allows it to be closed at idle? Didn't know that. Thx.

I just add the NPP exhaust system to my 2012 Camaro SS L99. Straight bolt on and sounds sooo sexy. Found the NPp on EBay "take off 1LE" for 650. Seller wanted 800 though but worked a deal. I also update my camaros rear end from 2012 to 2014.
I'd post pics but not sure how to add them on here. Lol |

Okay, I'm a bit confused now..... It seems lots of guys love their NPP exhaust. Yet, I hear lots of gripes from people about a muffler delete. Aren't they essentially the same?
I have the LS3 and therefore don't have the huge resonator the L99 has. I was planning on just doing the Solo axleback which is straight pipe with J-pipes for drone. Anybody care to comment on whether it would sound, same, different, worse, better than the NPP? I guess I don't see the point of putting on the NPP unless you want it quiet sometimes. I want to save the cash if the muff delete will do the same. Thanks for all your input. J |

Don't get me wrong I got a muffler delete now and I love it sounds like a beast it may be loud than the NPP but it just depends what mods you have like headers, X pipes etc but I plan on doing a cam down the road so I don't want my car to be insanely nascar loud because I daily drive mine that's why I decided to go with the NPP plus the quad exhaust look bad ass
