Well, its a performance car vs. a luxury car.

The (base vs. base) Cadillac focuses on creature comforts, while the Camaro has a heavier focus on 0-60 times. The LY7 could have powered the V6 camaro, but we would have ended up with the "V6 challenger" syndome, with the car being a snore to drive.

Cadillac recognizes that some of their buyers will want the more powerful engine, but keeping the base price down was more important than having awesome standard performance.

In short, it only makes sense that the V6 camaro would have a more powerful engine than the base CTS.

This V6 in the Camaro is a steal. You can't get it in any other car for the money you pay in a "camaro".

I believe they are the same engine block but that's where the similarities end. The camaro v6 uses direct injection among other things to add more HP/MPG to the engine.

My fuel injected v6 G8 puts out 256 HP, a lot less than the Camaro v6 does.
