I know how you feel. I'm 57 now and plan on keeping this car from now on. The problem is I have six grandsons and there're all going to claim it; I guess I'll let them fight it out in the end!

This photo is from the 2007 Southwest Airlines Employee Classic Car Show; I'm going to miss it this year!

Investment-wise, we'd be better off buying a nice 1st Gen car; They'll always be worth what they cost you, (or more), and the 5th Gen will only be worth $20K in a few years.

You are so right and that is bassed on demand. People will be willing to pay more if more people want it. Who whould have guessed 15 years ago that a beat up old 67 Camaro like this would be so valuable? 100% original. Crazy!

You arent? Now it will be driven, actually we are tking it on a Rte 66 tour, Chicago to Malibu, but we will keep it forever, God willing, right next to the 67 and the 89. They will never be sold and as time goes on, hopefully there will be more FBodys.

A few years they probably won't be worth jack. The value is a reverse bell curve. Drops very fast then stay in the gutter for a while the starts to gain value again. Look at any car, the Vette for example. You can pick up a really clean C4 for like 8 grand, but who wnats one of those right now? In another 10-15 years, they will be more valuable IF there is even still a big car enthusist hobby...

To the original question: NO.
The 64 1/2 mustang came out late in the model year. Much like the so called 70 1/2 Camaro, which came out about 4-5 months into the model year.
The 2010 Camaro came out prior to the 2010 model year. Just like the 1984 Corvette, which had about a 16 month production.

Your explanation doesn't really explain why a 2010 Camaro couldn't be called a 2009 1/2. After all, if a car comes out prior to the x model year, one would think that it belongs to the (x - 1) model year.

When does the model year typically start? June? August? Dependent upon that, could the 2010 Camaro ever be called, say, a 2009 3/4?

Change over is in first part of July, for tooling change. It typically takes 1-2 weeks to retool depending upon model changes...

I remember something about the early Mustang having the fuel tank actually in the trunk throughout half of the production year, possibly the first half of the 64'. Anyone recall this?

The 64-1/2 Mustangs are all titled as '65s; The Mustang enthusist, along with the parts industry, came up with the '64 1/2 tag to differentiate the cars built before the normal year model changeover in mid-August.

For the same reasons, we could see some '09 1/2 or early '10 referrences at some point.

I'm adding Summit White to the list.

The '64 1/2, '65, '66, etc. Mustangs had gas tanks that the top was actually the floor of the trunk; Remove the gas tank, and there was no floor in the trunk.

One of the things that will determine future value of the new Camaro is that a lot of them will be driven into the dirt, making the remaining ones more sought after.

Problem there is now that we have history to look at, there are plenty of people buying them for prosperity, which will have a depreciating affect on them years from now; There will be too many nice Camaros?!!

I plan on keeping mine forever but it was not bought as an investment but a CAR... to drive and enjoy. If right now I wanted a long term investment I would buy gold, property, or stocks. In twenty years it is certain they will have increased in value. (Especially right now with the suppressed market.) My Camaro might have some value ... but I am not counted on it.

The car looks like it will become an instant classic and I love mine. Just remember that for the most part cars are a very risky investment.

Just Drive it and know you have one of the coolest cars made in 2009.

Model years technically are calender year +1 from the start of production of that model. So anything started in 2009 must be called a 2010.

Typically new model production begins in the summer so that dealers can be stocked in the fall for the next model year. Based on that timetable, I guess the ones with the backup sensors would be the 2010's and the first ones built could be considered 2009 1/2's ... but I don't think that will catch on. Everything built for the next year or so will probably go down just as a 2010
