Now for the but part.... Back in the day, I'm talking the 60's all the street racing on Woodward Ave and Gratiot is what gave all you guys the Hot Rods you have now. Like it or not all the high performance ( factory and after market) came from the street in some form or another. May it just be an idea or a cool name for something, that's where it all starts. I'm not condoning street racing, just being a realist on the history like it or not.

RIP to those killed in a senseless accident....
You`re very right concerning street racing and Woodward Ave. being the unofficial test grounds for Hi-performance development during the sixties but it was also during and a little before this period that sanctioned racing groups like the NHRA, AHRA were born to take drag racing off the street and to put it in a safer enviroment.
The tracks are there if you choose to use them or if you choose to street race you will also have to accept the consequences of death, crippling injuries and lawsuits.
It`s your choice, if you choose street racing and you kill or maim me or mine be aware of the lawsuits and a life time of guilt for your actions.

It wasn't clear, but is it confirmed that they were actually in a 2010 SS Camaro? or just another year camaro? I apologize if I missed it.

What a shame...and sad to hear. Street racing and drunk driving are basically one in the same. God forbid street racers or drunk drivers to harm/kill my family or any innocent family at that.

I got pulled over the other day going 50 in a 40 but flowing with other traffic. I ended up not getting a ticket and was mad about it at first, but after reading this, I am happy that my area is heavily policed. Puts fear in the minds of would be speeders or racing...

That's why there are race tracks and safety crews.

I really feel for the passengers and the families left behind. Not to mention this fuels the fire against responsible Camaro owners since the car was prominently mentioned throughout the article(s).

I just don't understand why people would risk this. Racing with no safety equipment on a regular street is insane. I am very confident in my driving skills but would never race on the street simply because there are way too many variables to even pretend to control. I just wish people would save it for the tracks....sad.

It was a 4th gen Camaro - pic here: http://www.news-journalonline.com (don't know how long it will be front page but that's where it is now.)

The AP article in YahooNews that linked to this didn't even mention the make of the car.

Sad to hear...

but, MAN, that article was really poorly written. Painful... Also, the picture I saw didn't look like an SS Camaro, but rather a Z28. Maybe I was looking at the wrong thing?

Street racing is completely stupid. I can say this because on more then one occation I have been a complete MORON. Luckily I have never injured anyone else while racing and I have never done it in an area that could have led to this type of incident. I was an idiot as an early 20's male with a fast car and no bills.

That being said, the morons were racing on WET ROADS. Camaro's aren't known for their ability to keep the tires from breaking loose on dry roads, much less trying to keep them planted on a wet surface. I don't think either article mentioned the ages of the people that were destroyed along with the Camaro, but I think its safe to say they were fairly young drivers. I would hope that drivers of all ages would recognize that wet roads should be treated with more respect then this.

I feel for the parents that have to bury their childern and I hope they find the driver of the other car and he get's to answer for his part in their deaths. People just don't think before they mash the gas that "Murphy" is always lurking and they could be the next nominee for that "Darwin Award" for removing themselves from the gene pool.

This is nothing new, this stuff happens constantly. People with never learn.

The article said a dark colored sedan, possibly a Monte Carlo. MonteCarlo is a coupe.
