Big Dave,
I agree the ZL1 is a keeper! I sold my 2004 Corvette Z06-Z16, which I bought new in 04 for a new a 2013 2SS RS 1LE and loved it (for two years). Then I thought, what would a ZL1 be like if the 1LE was so good? Well I pulled the trigger last month and bought a 2015 ZL1 and yes this thing a beast and a definite keeper!!

I will be keeping this car for the duration. I will be buried in it. It might be cheaper than a full blown casket and all the extras.

I too traded UP for my ZL1. Sold my 2004 CTS-V for the Z and I had that for 9 years. It's hard to let go of the SPECIAL ONES... But if I'm fortunate enough to have a Z06 in my near future. I would say it would be worth trading up too!

My oldest friends... even the finance manager at my dealership reuse to believe that I am going to stay in this car. I generally change out evry 3-4 yeas, but I got out of the 2012 Grand Sport I had for not too long to get the ZL1. But... when I fist saw an all black ZL1 I knew that was all me. I never gave it a second thought.
So I told my friend, "Write it down !" He said I'm not even going to write it down in pencil. You'll cave for a Stingray." What he doesn't know is that they already tried to get me in one that was exactly my taste, and I walked away. I'm staying in the ZL1. Something would have to come off Satan's drawing board and cost the same for me to bail.

I'd get rid of mine in a minute.. Well for a brand new 2015 BVM ZL1 just sitting on the lot that the dealer can't get rid of because of the 2016 new models. Yes i know there is not a ZLI for 2016.

That's the plan.
For now. I'd only move up for something AWD and high-end, automatic transmission. But, want to keep the high-tech, old-school Camaro, too.

No doubt, this car is special.
It is the first car -- in my opinion -- that has been a true all-star at a relatively affordable price. This car has muscle, looks the part and can still participate in all the track and field events. Having said that, I typically upgrade every 3 years. I am completely infatuated with this car and intend to keep it unless a Gen 6 ZL1 is offered and doesn't lose any of the Gen 5's charm. I really like the interior and size of the Gen 6 and both are pretty significant factors for me.

Yep agreed, cant see it with other hi po variant on the horizon. i.e. zl1, z28, iroc, 1le. Only one that seems to be a keeper unless another 427CU variant come out is the Gen 5 Z/28.

Are we talking keeper as in, "a car that will be a collectors car", or are we talking about "a car that we want to keep because we really like it" ?

Keeper in a "relative" way for me. She's my DD, and I think I'll be coming up on 100K miles in about 5 years. I plan to keep her that long, but then it'll be time to replace her.
Right now there isn't another car out there (well, under $ 6 digits) that I'd rather have. We'll see about the Gen6 ZL1 when the time comes. |
