Why is it that some people can't believe that some of us are smart enough not to get speeding tickets?

(not directed at the original poster, to whom I wish best of luck - the defensive driving should clear it)

Well well well, guess i rubbed off on ya bud. I got popped for 57 in a 45 earlier today in my partners 4 cylinder Accord (total gutless dog). I normally drive the Z06, or ctsv, or jeep srt but the one time I take the slow poke car I get nabbed.

I cannot remember the last time I got a speeding ticket (at least that stuck) but I am 30 with a flawless record. I'm not worried either way, I know how to beat all tickets.

Damn 48 in a 40 is being a bit stingy on the cops part. I pass by several officers everyday going 8-9 over and never have any problem. Only time I get nervous is if I'm 10+ over.

What sucks is, if you had been doing 47... you probably wouldn't have been stopped. The general guideline that LEOs seem to follow is that up to 7 mph over the limit is acceptable.

I've always said that speed "limits" should be strictly enforced - 40 mph speed limit means 41 gets you a ticket. At least then you would know not to exceed what is posted. Now, you're just guessing at how much you can get away with... depending on the mood of the LEOs on a given day. If an interstate posted speed limit is 70, there shouldn't be any drivers allowed to go 80 without being pulled over, but I see it all the time. In that case, raise the limit to 80 and ticket those going 81.

And so ends my rant.

Call a lawyer, with your driving record and a low speed ticket, they'll have no problem getting it reduced to a non moving violation. Higher cost out of pocket, but no points and no increase in insurance. Well worth it IMO.

in your state do you get court dates? if so talk to the court. in my state they would look at it and i would pay the fine, but it would stay off my record if i have no same or similar for a year. the ticket costs more since you have to pay the court fees but it stays of my record

Same here. If I keep it under 10 over, there's never a problem here in Ct.
I'm sure Ohio needs the money.

Hire a lawyer, it will cost you 200-300 but it's worth it to keep the license points off and your insurance from going up. You were doing less than 9 over and I think with the 31 years of clean record getting it reduced to a non-moving violation should be quite simple.

The best thing is when you hire the lawyer you don't have to show up in court, they do it all for you. Worth the money in my opinion.

Get a lawyer. I got a 133 mph ticket last year and got out of it. Easy money.

I got one recently too, but mine was even more annoying... I was going 74 in a 70.... I guess the guy saw me a young guy in a louder Camaro and said easy money... I didn't even bother with court I paid the ticket online..

I don't get many tickets.....maybe one every 5 - 7 years, but when I do, I just take it as my high speed road tax, and remember all the times I really deserved a ticket, and got away with it! Sorry your streak is over, but that's how streaks go!

I've been pulled over about ten times in the last ten years riding one of my motorcycles and was only given one ticket. I went to court and got deferred adjudication. It cost the same as a ticket, but it went away after 90 days. Most jurisdictions will let you take defensive driving in lieu of the ticket.

Sadly, that's not offered in all states... unlike Texas.
