Thanks NightOwl guys!
If you are just replacing the LED in the headlight, and using the driver inside the headlight, you are going to end up with similar brightness. The only way to drive them brighter would be to switch to a brighter LED and drive them with a different driver. Our halo kit comes with a controller that includes drivers for both sides at about 3W instead of the stock ~1W. That doesn't mean that it is 3x brighter though. Also, if you are wanting a more blue-ish halo (opposed to the yellow-ish stock), you need to find an LED about 6000K-6500K. Not 5000K, as this is going to be very similar to stock. The stock one seems to be a little under 5000K. Or with our halo kit, you can adjust the color of the white, and choose this as your default color for everyday driving. Turn on the controller, and change the colors or create custom programs whenever you want. |

Another vote for NightOwl, best controller and extremely reliable, not a single issue to date and I've had the headlight halo LEDs installed about a year and the DRL halos have been installed about a month.

Like I said in the post from the other cosmetics forum, you can get the LED itself from Allied Electronics by Osram. You want their pure white rated at 5600k. Stock is around 5000k, so the Osram should be even whiter with maybe the slightest hint of blue. This is, of course, if you still just want a stock looking halo, though now it sounds like you're starting to want the Nightowl kit, which is also a high quality product.
You do not need to bake and pry open the headlamp to access the halo LED chip. You can unfasten the screws that hold it in place to get it out. It's frustrating to do, but a lot safer in the long run than ruining the factory headlamp housing seal. Once you have the star-shaped chip on which the LED is mounted out from there, disconnect it and then it's just a matter of replacing the LED on it with your new one. |
