I have a non-RS 2LT and live in a part of the country that is very dark. I've had HID lighting on my previous 3 vehicles and they were needed. On my Camaro, the stock headlights are plenty bright enough and provide excellent coverage - just the color is more yellow than the HID.

To me the RS package was not worth the extra money because you get stuck with the crappy, short life, summer tires on the 20 inch wheels. I drive over 25k miles a year and will drive my car all year. Those summer tires were the deal killer for me.

I'd like to have had the Halo HD lights, but not for $1450.00 plus a new set of tires in 4 months.

I believe the convenience package is standard on the 2LT & 2SS, and optional for the 1LT & 1SS.

As far as the RS package, I originally ordered my 2LT without it because I thought I wanted to get custom wheels/rims & the optional high wing spoiler (which you cannot get with the RS). I thought I would just add the HID/halos later. After much going back & forth, I finally decided to add the RS package. My motivating factors were as follows: Price on HID/halos were going to cost $1200 for the pair (per the GM Parts Direct site) --- and that is before labor. I also was getting concerned that the high-wing spoiler showed "no estimate" on the availability date--which I believe is still the case today. I knew I wanted SOME kind of spoiler, so I decided I'd rather have the one that comes with the RS vs. taking a chance on NEVER getting the high wing. Finally, I knew I wanted to get 20" wheels/rims and it seemed silly (when combined with my previous two points), to go to the extra expense/hassle of gettingmy own20" wheels/rims when the ones that come with the RS are very nice as-is. Add it all up, and I think the RS package is a GREAT deal. I'm happy I changed my mind. Ultimately, you have to decide if the extras that come with the RS package are worth the price to you. Good luck with your decision.

I went with the RS package on my 2LT because I wanted the HIDs/Halos and the spoiler. I really DON'T want the 20" wheels and tires becasue of the short-life summer tires. However, in the end I decided to get the RS and look to trade the 20s for standard 2LT 19s right away.

i didn't get the rs. i live in a bright city so no need to light it up any further. i will still be able to see. i plan on getting custom wheels so i was going to remove the stock ones anyway. my car is gray and i plan on doing the blackout thing so the black roof ditch molding should fit in (and i don't see it setting off the color even if i didn't). i don't care either way about a spoiler. so yeah, i'll save my little $2k.

Very good point -- I forgot about the summer tire issue. How long can I expect them to last me? How much are replacement tires?

I ordered the RS pacakage just based on seeing the non-RS package in person side by side with the RS--Huge diff...besides you get it now and not piece meal aftermarket and the parts are all covered under factory warranty--1 less thing to worry about..IMHO.

Depends fully on how aggressive you drive the car. My grandmother could probably push 30k out of them; I'd be happy with 20k but banking on 15k. New set of rears is roughly $750-$800.

I read in that thread that the dealers cannot install the spoiler on the car. If you want to save the money I guess you could install the halo headlights later on (for a few hundred probably). However, if you break down the package, I think it's worth it for those lights, upgrade in rims, painted molding, spoiler, and darker tail lights. Some people pay over a grand just for their rims! This is just my .02. Good luck with your decision.
try more like a few thousand. get the rs package now if your looking to do it eventually..paying retail from gm for the headlights, spoiler, wheels and new tires will easily run you 7-8 thousand. they are giving one hell of a bargain with it...which is why i got it.

hhmm...that was like with my cobalt...people were burning those tires out in 20k miles...with burnouts and what not on my tires, i made it to 40k before i needed new ones. its pretty much all in the way you drive, and the stock pirellis are about 400 a piece

By the time I get my Camaro, it will be winter. does that mean I shouldn't drive it with the summer tires on it? also, you mentioned replacing the rear tires -- does that mean I only have to replace those or do the rears just cost more??
