Well, I have had the ps issue now for a few months. Dealership has worked on it with no complaints. But, today I was told that GM said they will no longer work on it due to my modding car and moving ground stud for CAI and other things. And, the steering motor threw an error code 6 times which locks up said motor and it will no longer work. So, you have to replace it, but it's part of the rack, so you have to buy the whole setup. All $950+ of it. And, if I do that and try to continue looking for fixes, and the code happens again 6 times, it will kill that motor to. So, it would appear that for now, I'm gonna be driving a $60,0000 car (plus another $20,000+ in mods) with absolutely no power steering. Any input as to options I can take, either with GM to get this warrantied or fixed, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So what was your resolution? I have had no EPS issues until today where it stopped working twice today. A close inspection didn't reveal anything interesting but the ground wire termination point is so wimpy. I took off the ground wire, sanded down the surface on both the car and the terminator. Cleaned everything very well and put it all back together. If that doesn't solve the problem, I'm going to try the ADM fix.

I seem to have the exact opposite problem. My steering is extremely light like the assist is way overboosted. It feels like i'm driving a '72 Cadillac. I noticed in the first post that links 5 thru 8 mention 'light steering' but the links don't work. Anyone have any thoughts on this issue?

Drove the car today and yesterday and did not have a problem with the power steering system.

Update: EPS has not failed once. ADM is 100% correct, the ground on the system is garbage. If I have future issues I will engineer a larger ground.

I ordered a used motor for $250, rather than a whole new rack system for $1000. Had it put in and had ground relocated to frame. The shop that installed new motor for me also installed a ground strap that runs from one of the bolts on the motor itself to the frame for an even stronger ground. After this, the ps works fine, but, it makes grinding noises, like when you have bad ball joints or other front end parts. Now, it throws the code UO 126 - lost communication with steering angle sensor module. Even though it throws code, it doesn't ever actually lose power steering anymore. It just does the popping that I can now only assume is the gears of the rack popping because it and the SAS are out of sync. I had to unplug it for now and go back to no power steering because even though its hard as hell to turn, it doesn't make noise and hopefully won't tear up the rack. If anyone can offer some insight on this code issue and possible fix, that would be awesome and greatly appreciated as driving the car kills my shoulders and arthritic elbow. LOL.

If anyone needs a good EPS rack, I have one for $300 plus shipping. I never had any issues with it. Less than 4000 miles.

A lot of audiophiles are picky about the sound of their music. It seems in cars they particularly have issues with hiss or humm and most of these are due to, wait for it, bad grounds. I've recently experienced this in my pickup truck and am going to work on the fix.

I only bring this up since they have a name for it and it is more common than I thought. It's called the Big 3. Interestingly enough, I think this could be a possible fix for the issues a lot of our fellow C5 brothers and sisters seem to be having. There is an addition to the Big 3 and they add a 4th harness into the mix (alternator case to chasis or engine block). There are even prefabricated kits you can buy for this. Google Big 3 wire and you'll get tons of hits, here's one that has a tutorial. (For the Big 4, add alternator case to chasis).

I still haven't had any luck fixing my steering issues. My car is now at a local automotive school where a friend of mine goes. The instructors there are 35 year certified GM master techs and been working on it for a week so far. Hopefully they can figure it out.

Let us know if your discover anything, we both have 2013 A6 ZL1's. I checked the ground on mine and it looks well connected by my mechanic who modded my car. This was one of those years where real life affected my chances to drive it around.
