Whats your estimate of how much you spend a month on gas by just driving in town such as stop light to stop light? (in USD dollars not MPG or CAD if possible)

$35/ week (for my Stroker motor that gets an avg of 15mpg)
The LS3 is made to run on premium fuel. 93 octane.

I barely use the freeway and do town driving alot i spend around $150 a month on regular gas but as you mentioned I also push the gas much harder.

Would appreciate if you can give me an estimate on monthly gas costs so I can compare? Also the longer u drive the more gas it will be compared to a v6 right? because v8 engine is 6.2L but v6 is 3.6L

Tell me your monthly mileage and the current cost of 87 octane and 93 octane, then I will tell you YOUR monthly expectation of fuel cost of a V6 (87 octane) vs the V8 (93 octane).
If you'd just take your miles and use the V8 estimated mileage (20-22ish) and multiply the cost of 93 octane then you can answer your own questions.

IMHO , a Camaro with that 3.6 is just silly . I drove one , and in order to get any power out of it you had to rev the snot out of it . When you do that the MPG go's to hell . The V8 is nice and smooth and you can keep the rev's down and get decent fuel mileage and decent power. Bottom line the 3.6 Opel engine is a no go in the Camaro . In fact you miss the whole driving experience with the 3.6.

I average 14mpg@$2.65/gal. I only drive this car 8-10k miles/year.

A...Fking..Men!!!

The V6 absolutely sucked when I drove it. I can't believe people here enjoy it. I think they just say they do because it looks nice and that's all they could afford. It has mushy brakes, handles poorly and as you said has to reach almost redline like most imports to get power out of it. It's only around to increase market share. I sometimes cruise in town in 6th gear and get very good MPG. So if you wanna save gas you can, and if you wanna tear loose you can. If you're gonna go V6, there's plenty of better cars out there that have better performance.

OP, if you wanna come by Kitchener, I'll let you take the SS out if you can drive stick. That will make up your mind 1second after you turn the key.

If $15 in gas breaks your budget then you're in the wrong vehicle altogether.

What are you talking about? My car is worth more than your 2011 camaro... it has amazing handling and breaks are fine.

I've seen a SS camaro and 2LT camaro at similar prices so yea.. its not about the money

I don't know what you've been smoking but clearly your biased and money is not an issue I just don't want to throw away money on gas...

If you're talking about 'better performance' cars and camaro is in the same sentence I find that funny because camaro is heavy as hell and I've seen plenty of cars beat v8 and v6 camaro's so please lets not talk about performance just because you have a v8 camaro. Might be a news flash to you but, power does not win races... torque, weight, airflow and more contributes to a car being faster

I bought a camaro because of how it looks and feels when driving and the overall car... not speed... speed won't get you anywhere in life except countless tickets

All depends on how you drive and how much is highway. My commute to work is 25 miles highway and 10 miles city with only a couple lights. I can see over 30 - 32 MPG on the highway. My overall MPG for the life of my Camaro is 23.95. I know as I have every fill-up recorded.

I just crossed 80K miles. So doing some simple math, and using fuel cost of $3 per gallon as a constant, I spent just over 10K on fuel.

If I had a V8 and did the same math, using a 17 mpg avg. I would have spent just over 14K. So in the 5 years of owning my V6 I have saved over 4K in fuel alone.

This does not take into account the 7K I saved by not getting a comparable V8. Along with cheaper insurance.

For me the V6 was the right choice this time. As I can continue to use it as my DD.

I will be getting a V8 in the 6th gen. ordering it in early 2017 to go after a 50th anniversary model.

Everyone has to justify their purchase to themself and only themsleves.

Good luck and enjoy.

OP,
the V8 certainly enhances the driving experience...

you can roughly estimate your montly gas as a ballpark like this

take the size of the fuel tank and multiply by the price difference between regular and premium
so say .30/litre x 50 litres= $15.
multiply by the number of times you fill up in a month...say x 4= $60 difference
then add say 1 more tank since the mileage is slightly lower in the V8.
I would think you will be over $100 month difference

also, maintainance is slightly higher on the V8 (synthetic oil vs. dextros hybrid)

I bought the V6 only because you can only go so fast here anyway and the extra 1 second did not matter to me..I will agree with some of the other posts that because of the weight,I am also on the pedal a little more to get the performance out of the V6. And also, I did not want to commit to a vehicle that the recommended fuel is premium.

We know that the fuel prices are higher here in Canada than the USA

Like anyone who has driven the V8 can tell you , you just can not even compare the two .
