Why? The parking brake assembly is totaly seperate from the caliper, it is a drum brake assembly which applies pressure to an inside drum, which is part of the disk rotor.

when it comes time to change your rotors out, Try and pull your rotors off with the parking brake applied, then watch them fall off when you release the parking brake

The only parking brake so far in this car is the transmission. If you're going to make the parking brake the biggest brake in the history of cars, so big that it constantly annoys the passenger when I put it down before leaving, make it at least work.
Mine works fine. It is not there to hold the car in positition, it is there to ease the job of the transmission. A manual should be parked in gear, not in nuetral. It is used to keep the automatics from torque locking on hills. Sometimes an automatic parked on a hill will roll into a locked condition where it will not be able to be shifted out of park without having someone nudge the car to release the pressure on the gears. The proper way to use this is to engage the parking brake and then put the car into Park. When starting out, you should put the car into gear and then release the parking brake. Never rely on it to hold the car on a hill with the car in nuetral.

Sounds like the parking brake mechanism needs to be adjusted. Take it back to the dealer - it should fully engage with the handle only about half way up. It should be very tight at that point - in neutral on a hill the car should go nowhere.

Most cars have tension adjustment screws/bolts under the center arm rest for this, and they should be able to adjust the tension to each wheel individually. The proper way to do it is to find the tension adjustment bolts, jack the rear of the car up, pull the parking brake handle up about half way, and spin the rear wheels individually by hand, and tighten the tension bolts untill the very point the wheels no longer spin (and do not tighten the bolts after that point).

Mine works fine. Holds steady. Um, did you contact the dealer to have it checked/fixed? You know you have a warranty that covers stuff like this.

Talking

"I rent a lot of cars, but I don't always know everything about them. So a lot of times, I drive for like ten miles with the emergency brake on. That doesn't say a lot for me, but it really doesn't say a lot for the emergency brake. It's really not an emergency brake, it's an emergency 'make the car smell funny' lever."

Sounds like someone needs it to take it to the dealer ship and have them fix it.
