ZL1 holding its value is a joke. Everyone knows that it didn't. I paid 65k for my car, 1month later I entertained the idea of trading it in for a c7 vet, and the dealership only would offer me 50k!! 1 month later!. This car does many good things, but holding its value is not one of them. expect to lose 15-20k soon after you purchase it. sorry just the facts.

True....anytime you are the first to buy you take the biggest hit.

I bought my ZL1 used with only 4800 miles and got a great deal.

To each his own....

Here's my take. The LSA is a rock solid engine with proven performance and mod adders.

The ZL1 can be taken to 800-1000 hp without skipping a beat. The powertrain is almost unbreakable. The car can be a great track car, drag car or weekend cruiser all at the same time. The mag ride, supercharger and robust drivetrain make this car and incredible deal.

I know there might be a chance that GM will make a 2016-2017 ZL1 but I highly doubt it will be as robust as our 5th Gen ZL1's. IMHO
Spot on well said.

We are talking long term, not short term. The high price of the new 2SS is going to make the ZL1s look like bargins

Depends on how well the Gen 6 performs. If it's on par with the ZL1, or darn near as good, then I'd probably save your pennies and dimes and go that route. But I'm not you.

Also, consider they're probably won't be any performance version of anything until 2017. Consider too, this is when the EPA/manufacturer agreements on the new CAFE standards kicks in. So it could cost you even more!

I let go of the AGM, that color wasn't our favorite. Now I'm focusing on a red ZL1 or the 6th. gen SS, probably my choice will depend on their performance and dependability at the track. I heard that this Friday GM'S info embargo is due for the press to reveal their impressions over the 6th. gen SS drive reviews.
Please keep on topic the long time hold value is not my concern at this time. And again thanks for all your experienced advises.
This car will be a DD and ocassional weekend track car, but needs to be in automatic to be able to share it to my wife, that doesn't like to drive standard shits.
How has been your experience at the track with your automatic transmission? Any overheating experience? Do you like to race it in full auto or prefer the paddle shifts? Why?

You are 100% correct about buying a new ZL1. All ZL1s will be used soon. But if you look around for a lightly used one you get a good deal. Like try to buy any ZL1 you would want to own for less than $40K. So they immediately drop into the $40sK and stay there. Over time they will drop a little more but not as fast as a new SS. CA6 SSes will become very common quickly. I paid $49,350 for my 3,000 mile 2015 ZL1 with Recaros that was traded for a Hellcat for about $48K. I could have bought an identical new ZL1 with all my car has plus a sunroof and the steering wheel/shifter cover option for an additional $12K. No thanks.

So theoretically I could trade my ZL1 for close to what I paid for it right now. But I love this car. I came from 2 5th gen SSes, the last one being a twin turbo 1LE. Of all of my 5th gens I like driving this one the best of the three. But it is kind of slow compared to my 1LE. But in the future I can fix that. Right now, including the 2016 SS IMO, the ZL1 (used) is the ultimate Camaro and a much smarter buy than the 2016 SS.

If by track you mean 1/4 then you can be sure the new SS will not be keeping up with auto ZL1s. But if you mean a real race track, then auto is the wrong choice. No overheating here on my M6. LOL. More fun to drive for me. I would say though if you really want an auto, then the CA6 SS has a better one than the current ZL1. So maybe you should buy the CA6 and not worry about new car depreciation.

Just I will like to bring a Camaro that will give a strong fight to the 911 Carreras and some C5 Z06's from my local PCA Located in an airport track. Very tight curves & slaloom, I will like to give those Guys a strong surprise. The last time at that track with my '11 5.0 GT Brembo track pack, std. 3.73 gear, wide Michelin Pilot SS, adjustable swaybars, KONI shocks & Steeda sport springs. I gave a very strong fight to a modified BMW M3 (V8), he did 29 secs. and I did 30 secs lap. I had to leave the track after I run out of brakes, my brake fluid boiled.

I love std. transmissions, but this time I promised my wife that the next sport car was going to be automatic to make her also happy.

I waited, waited and waited and finally got a GREAT DEAL from a great Philly dealer. 20% under sticker, thus eliminating the guzzler tax, 1st depreciation and more. Gotta love Chevy's current 15% Tag Sale and a dealer who wanted to sell the Z.

Those '16 SS reviews were great. I think I will wait cautiously to see how it goes with the new '16 SS owners, if no issues compared to the Stingray's 50/50 luck.
the '16 SS then it will be my choice.

If overheating are reported, then I will play it safe with the indestructible actual ZL1.

Either way it is a WIN-WIN decision.

Enjoy your rides!!
