I asked about this from my dealers parts guy. He looked it up and the RS tails are a one piece deal and cost $82 for one, way too much dough x 4

You could paint the chrome interior black on the non RS tails but you'd have to take the assembly out and remove the red lens. It looks like they're glued on so it would take heating them up to remove. Too much work for little gain for me.

To each his own, but I find it incredibly easy to determine RS vs. regular tail lights. All you have to do is know what you're looking for, and that's easy. Look for more distinct semi-circular red in the tails.

See? The non-RS tail lights will be completely red.

Really? It looks to me like the whole light is darker, not just black housing.

I think the RS' "darker, more sinister-looking" (that's from the brochure) tail lights look better, but I wouldn't pay $82 X 4 to get them if I didn't already have them.

And they're easy for me to spot, but I know what I'm looking for.

^ I agree. On an SS, I would not pay for the RS package. But if I were getting an LT, I would have it--mainly because you'd get the rear spoiler and the 20" midnight silver wheels. The taillights don't make much difference to me, and I actually like the looks of the standard headlights better than the halos on the RS.

Did anyone else read the thread title and immediately think of Joe Pesci's character in "Goodfellas"?

Different how? How am I different? What the %*#! is so different about me?

The package is more than just tail lights.

Includes 20" x 8" front and 20" x 9" rear flangeless, painted aluminum wheels with Midnight Silver finish, body-color roof ditch molding, high intensity discharge headlamps and RS unique tail lamps.

I only wanted the HID headlights and the rims for my 2SS, so I had to buy the RS package to get them. It's an old strategy used by car companies. Put one or two things in a package they know people will want, throw in some other stuff and people will buy it.

No one is saying it's "nothing." It isn't THAT much more for the RS package, so if you're already buying a brand new Camaro, I'm sure most people that wanted the RS package could get it.

The 20's come standard on the 2ss so you just get headlights.
