Here in Michigan the speed limit is 70 and for the most part they don't look at you until your doing 15 over

Go and do the delay trick going to court. It may get thrown out eventually.

Why would you pay for a lawyer when you clearly know you were in the wrong? $750 is pretty steep. I got a ticket in another state (TN or KY I think, I don't remember) for going 101 mph in a 70 zone. The cop was the nicest cop ever, haha. But the fine was $174 or something like that... I just mailed them a check and that was the last I ever heard of it. Don't hire a lawyer... that's just absurd in this situation

I agree with the horror stories that us Michiganders hear about Ohio being a speed trap though... I dunno where that idea came from, but it's definitely implanted in our minds to the point where I'm nervous just going 75 in Ohio

The fine for the ticket is 113 and two points, but the state told me that they would use michigans point system and that's 4 points plus I have a cdl a that I use

Hmm... 4 points seems like too much to me, I would think 2 or 3... I dunno the specifics of how that works though. Do they have an option to set up an informal court date? I've done that a couple times. You just go there on the date they tell you, plead guilty with explanation (say you were keeping up with traffic, and someone was tailgating you), and they might drop the points and increase the fine slightly. I don't know if Ohio does that, but since they're using Michigan's system for some reason maybe they'll have something similar?

In Ohio 11-29 over is 2 points, here in Michigan <16 is 3 points, 16-20 is 4 points and 20 and over is 6 points

MI and Ohio share records. So, MI will find out, if you get a Points based ticket in OH.

He wrote me the ticket for the full amount 84 (not sure how we got that fast) in a 65. I called a lawyer in the Erie county Ohio area and he tells me that he can get it down to a non moving violation for the amount of 750 plus what ever the fine is, money back garantee, I have never had to deal with the Ohio cops or courts, here in michigan it's not hard to get the points taken away if you ask and have a commercial dl, which I have ... What do I do? Pay the guy or go at it myself I could careless about the fine it's the 2 points in Ohio but 4 points in Michigan that I care about
First of all, 81 is NOT a "good speed" to be driving at in Ohio. We personally drive no faster than 72 on the highways. Any faster than that and they will nail you. Have a cousin who is a Statie. They have no senses of humor.

Can't help you with the ticket. Sorry.

Ha...I had to drive 3+ hours to Paducah for driving school a few years back, because of a speeding ticket I got on a backroad south of Wickliffe...I remember no such break! LOL!! Wasn't anything crazy, either...mid-high 60s in a 55 iirc, but I didn't want the fine/points.

I passed a state trooper here in Oklahoma doing 63 in a 45 (open road, and did notice he was a patrol car) and he let me off with a warning. I don't know about your position, but I'd do anything I could to keep my insurance from going up. My insurance is increasing this year all together and a ticket would just kill me.

How can you folks actually go that fast in Ohio? (unless it's my part of the state) the roads are like hell & will put major damage on your suspensions at those speeds. (8 front wheel bearings replaced on my '06 already)

I live near a highway which has a speed work zone of 50, the lanes are narrowed down, yet a few still insist on 70+... I find these newer cars just can't take the pounding of the potholes at high speeds.
