Just push the blue button and ask if you are entitled to 3 year free basic OnStar. I did and got it.

i got the 5 year thing with my 2014. i read on their website that the basic plan includes some features of the app and 2 other small things. nothing major.

It's for 3 years and it doesn't only apply to if you bought used. You don't need the email. Just push the blue on star button and tell them GM sent you an email for 3 free years of basic.

Here is copy and paste (minus the graphics) of the email. The key is the phrase, "Chevrolet Owner Gratitude". Three years of basic absolutely free and three months of Navigation stuff as trial. I did it purely for the remote app capability. No credit card required.

I'll give this a shot tomorrow. The onstar site said it was for pre-owned cars.
