We are required to have the plates in WA, not putting one on until I get pulled over for it. Check out the pic in post #130 from the link below, you will see how most of us feel about the front plate. Out of 22 WA Camaro's, 2 have plates...

Driving since May with no front plate in NJ - passed many, many local and State Police - even had two stare at me, give the thumbs up and went back to their business.

If you don't do another violation or happen upon a registration check you're OK - the odds are with you unless you're speeding, running a stop sign or unlucky to roll-up on a reg check.

No front plates here; not a law in Michigan. You only get one when you register. Saves the state and you money…

No front plate here. The law does require it. When parked downtown, the parking patrol looks for cars without front plates to ticket. $35.00 fine if paid within 30 days, otherwise it doubles to $70.00. Great money maker for the city.

I got hassled for it last weekend:

I drove past a cop and obeyed EVERY law possible. Turned into a parking lot for breakfast...
Wife: this cop is going to mess with you
Me: no, i didn't do anything wrong, he just wants to see the car
Wife: no, hes totally going to screw with you
Me: for what
Wife: just wait and see

so we get out and walk towards the restaurant, cop pulls up right in front of me with the passenger window down and says:

Cop: you know you don't have a front plate on that car?
Me: (oh youve got to be kidding me) Yea I know
Cop: you know its the law
Me: yea
Cop: well we get bored around here
Me: (so go find some criminals to catch) OK
Cop: so...
Me: well I just got the car and I am not screwing into my front bumper.
Cop: well I had to do it to my Jeep
Me: (does this look like a freakin jeep?) ok
Cop: get it taken care of

End of story. This was out of town so I blew it off. Worst thing is I had to admit to my wife she was right!

17 years of driving, 3rd time hassled about it, only got 1 ticket. I think the plate will be staying off. Its a non moving violation (no points) so I'd just pay the ticket and go on my way. Thanks Ohio!

On my '94 Vette I was stopped once, and in my '01 Vette stopped again... In each case the officer let me go (I told them that the car had been in a show and I forgot to put the front plate back on)...I finally put on my front plate about a year ago (and I only average about 2.5K miles a year in it)...it's just not worth the hassle.

If stopped tell them the bracket to mount the plate
didn't come with the car , and the dealer ordered one
will mount as soon as I get it

ive only ever been stopped for it once, (she used it as an excuse to get me on something else, which failed), and had it mentioned one other time during a speeding ticket. that being said, i know there are many parts of texas where they can be strict. pretty sure austin isnt one of them, so ill take my chances. its no disrespect to officers, im thankful for what they do, i just feel that having a plate would be disrespectful to my front bumper. clear instructions were made to the dealer and he totally understood.
