The Firebird based on the Gen 5 Looks like an abomination (78) . Poor thing was hit with an ugly stick over and over . Whom ever designed it tried way to hard. Firebird was one of my favorite all time cars . I miss Pontiac some of my favorite cars .

I would have liked to see one in person. A 5Gen T/A or Firebird would have been cool to see in the showroom. However, I grew up through the 90's and I always thought of Pontiac T/A or Firebird as the generic knock off version of Camaro and Corvettes.

I don't think that anymore though... I was just a kid then.

I was selling cars at Saturn when went it out. Our dealer then went to Saab, good idea!. Saab tried to make it as an independent for awhile but GM would not let it happen.

Either Pontiac or Chevy had to go, and it wasn't going to be Chevy. Buick or Olds, the same..etc.. Never understood why GM sold competing products.

Why they have GMC compete with Chevy is still a mystery. There is so much money made on trucks that they can get away with it. I want a new Silverado but I just can't justify the price.

2000 Trans Am owner here, miss my car :(

I do like the Camaro though, I think it is a work of art. Both were very good in my opinion.

I agree with the comment that they should have made a GMC version and released it, but with Camaro sales so high it was better that they spent the money and R&D on new versions like the z/28 and ZL1.

Plus I'm a Corvette guy at heart.

Here's mine:

All of my performance cars were Pontiacs (98 TA A4, 98 TA M6, 99 Firehawk Formula, 05 GTO M6, 2000 WS6 TA).

If I was given the choice between the Camaro, and the kit TA (if it came as a GM product) I would still buy the Camaro. I do like the wheels though.

I'll probably buy another Firehawk as a project for my son and I. Still like them, but like my 1LE more.

The New Chevy SS is basically an upgraded G-8. Pontiac even had the Holden Ute slated to be in the lineup. Then they had the Solstice ( even made a Hardtop Version).

^^^ This and I'll ad, the G6 was also a very popular car. I buy Pontiac's all the time for our car lot, it is as reliable as any other GM car. They sell as good as anything else. Just role GMC into Cadillac, look at all the models they have, why have 2 very expensive brands?

Here is a car I saw at the last car show I attended. A lot of people looked at it and it sounded great. The last Pontiac that I owned was a '74 Trans Am, had some mods, that car was a blast to drive!

to be honest I dont miss the T-A, yes its sad it banish forever, because the TA as the good looking one (for 2th and 4th gen), but hey, at least GM could save one of the twins, now we must remember the camaro will have more high-end cousins for 2016-2018 so if you like a high end American Sport coupe there will be more to choose from...

Buic (prototype): Avista - V6 TT - 400 hp

Chevy: Camaro SS - V8 6.2 - 46X hp

Cadillac (Concept): Elmiraj - V8 4.5 TT -500 hp
but still well get the Coupe CTS-V soon:

Corvette: Corvette C7 -V8 6.2 - 455 hp

Because back in the day, the divisions did compete, and it promoted a healthy atmosphere even though it was a touch indulgent to have say three divisions all making a 455 cubic inch engine that shared nothing in common with each other. Then when the rules of the car making game changed, GM ignored it for too long, and then we got into the 'Corporate GM' mire that was more or less a sham in some ways. Instead of a graceful transition to a new era, we had an ugly floundering bellyflop.

I know very well that many people- even members of this forum- tried and strived to change that horrid circumstance but unfortunately...we all saw it and the fall out. Without those dedicated resourceful and talented people, we'd never have the good GM products we have today, and it must have been twice as hard to excel in the climate they had to do it in.

I'd have quickly killed GMC in the melee and offered more premium Chevy trucks, even with the possibility of retaining the Denali name for top Chevys. Of course, it comes down to the bottom line, and GMC doesn't hurt GM at all while Pontiac had a lackluster bottom line and didn't justify the investment every year in different bodies, badges, and parts. Buick was already huge in China, and I'm glad we have an export the Chinese want for a change.
