If you are in so cal go to Cunningham motorsports. 500 is not some super unobtainable goal...the drive ability and reliability are tougher to get

My little 450/450 with cms grind cam was a very mundane set up for that shop.

If not, that's your missing 20 in regards to OP query of 500.

Just sayin'

Yea, it would probably make less on a different dyno with different elevation. I'm low here in Florida, and have different gasoline. Everything plays a part

My point was in regards to the OP and his mods he's considering. Florida is more generous on dyno's because of the elevation, and his mods would be similar to the ones I have exactly. He would need more to hit 500 than I have, which would include porting the heads and probably a little more than that.

Good luck, I just don't want you to be upset if you don't hit the mark without porting the intake along with the heads.

The OP said cam and headers, no head work, no intake work... It takes more than just cam and headers to crack 500 90% of the time. Plus he's in California, so he has crappier gas and would need cats to be roar legal

The OP might live at sea level, we don't know this.

Many from East Coast, NY City, Montreal, etc, on here, all pretty much at sea level, maybe 300ft tops. Our colder temps prolly make the air more dense than Florida's hot humid air anyways, lol.

Hell, even Bo White's town of Vance elevation is 500ft tops, lol.

In regards to The OP and the mods he is considering, first and foremost, as per title head, it is cam he speaks of firstly, then supporting mods would logically follow.

Since he has not even selected cam, then why don't we start from scratch here, quit following the usual go-to models, and have him start on a Low Lash cam, which will equate to possibly even more HP across the entire band, than even ported heads?

OR he can accept the fact that with a maximum of 91 AKI, and not 93, (unless he ponies out for ported heads and Low lash, to meet 500hp goal on 91AKI), he can attain a much more street-able "480HP" car on pump 91 with LL, because you can run equal power on smaller LL cam vs a larger equivalent hydraulic.

Like you wrote to 1LE66, he would have to go stupid roar legal, but IMHO, this applies only to a hydraulic cam application.

Just sayin' he can do all this properly from scratch, get away with a smaller LL cam, as opposed to a larger, rougher, less friendly hydraulic cam spec, in order to achieve those numbers he seeks, or as close to them. Start from the root, not the leaves.

Of course, you have got to pay to play

All solid points, but I was simply stating the obvious that unless he does something like you're saying, a simple cam swap with exhaust won't net that HP.

My city is 15ft above sea level, so while Bo's is low, he's not quite where I'm at. LL cams are not common, hence my comment.

E85 will pick up some power but not a lot with just cam. Heads will help bump compression which will utilize e85 more. Either way gonna need more mods
